Big Bore T/C Encore Handgun Shooters

I'm looking to buy a Thompson Center Encore handgun with a BIG BORE custom made barrel. If anyone shoots one of these, let me know the caliber, ballistics and barrel length of your gun. How does the recoil compare to other handguns? I love handgun recoil and want something very powerful! I've looked at handgun barrels chambered in 416 JDJ, 470 Capstick, 50 Alaskan, 458 Win Mag, 375 H&H...etc. I currently have a 454 Casull and a 475 Linebaugh, and want more power and recoil! :D

I had a Contender in .357 Herrett, one time, and that gun
was BRUTAL in the recoil department! That thing would
give you a case of terminal flinch, if you werent careful.
I dont think I would want one in say, .500 smith! :)

I've got a Contender Collection, & want to make the jump to the Encore series...

I have a 14" 45-70 hunter barrel, & it lets you know it's there... but my 375 Winchester has a more violent recoil... my 10" custom 45 Colt barrel makes my knuckles bleed with in 5-10 shots with as heavy a loads as the frame can handle

I honestly can't imagine what a belted magnum would be like with a pistol grip & the blast from a pistol length barrel...

my 1st barrel set up will be in 416 Rigby... but then it'll also have a stock

Bulberry Barrel Works will make you just about anything you want. Noted for quality.
Just to give you an idea, they offer 50-70, .338 WM, and of course, the ever popular .458 WM.
Pays your money, makes your choice.
However, if I were you, I would make sure that common sense and reason entered the picture before ordering.

The cool thing about that .458 is that you could make some cheap plinkers with cast bullets and fast powders for when you want to save your wrists.

I have a Bullberry 10" .44 mag barrel for my Encore, with a Simmons scope on it.

I load 300 gr Nosler JHP to 1450 fps, and in this heavy pistol recoil is a pussycat and accuracy is superb. This power of load in a model 29 would have severe recoil.

I'd say go with the .45-70 or the .500 S&W, with 12-14" bbl.

This one does it for me. .45-70, and slams the hand about as hard as I need, and then some. Muzzle flip, however, is much worse from an unported 10" octagon .44 Mag.

Big

I have a 15" barrel for my Encore that is chambered in 500 S&W. My "favorite" load is one of Rick Gibson's 600 grain WFN cast bullets.
You want recoil.....I am no stranger to recoil and do not fear it; that being the case, the 500 loaded with those bullets is by far the most unpleasant pistol that I have ever fired. There is no foreplay; it hurts right from the first trigger pull.

The 460 smith with full house loads or the 45/70 with heavy loads will give enough recoil for almost anyone. My 460 15 in got a brake installed so I could keep a scope on it. The 45/70 has a brake but can still be loaded to a point that is unpleasant.
