I like Big Bore snubbies.....

Charter Bulldog .44spl 2.5" for me!

Carry it all the time.

If 3" counts as a snubbie, then I also have an old school Bulldog, too.

I love the thought of having a nice, light little gun that slings those big, fat .44 bullets.

Lowercase: Love the contrast between old and new! There is a reason the Charter Arms Bulldog .44 has been around for so many decades...because people want it!

I've been lusting after the Rossi 720 for a decade now

Rarer than hen's teeth in California.

Hey Buckeye- Do you have the new Rossi magnum? General impressions?

I've got a Bulldog 44 special on the way as I type....Never owned a dedicated 44 special just shot them out of 44's.

I was a little skeptical of the Charter Arms brand but after some serious research the conclusion was reached that they are decent and reliable guns. The positive reviews far outweighed the negative ones.

If I didn't reload I don't think I would get a 44 special though. Factory ammo is relatively scarce and very expensive.

lowercase......I recall you posting the pic of your bulldog before and thinking those grips were pretty sweet....May I ask what they are and where you got them?.......I answered part of the question....found your old post stating that they are vintage bulldog grips.....So where do you find something like that or similar?

I think I found mine on ebay. You can find them popping up periodically on ebay and gunbroker.

Here's a listing for some at a pretty high price. I remember paying a lot for mine, too, but they're hard to come by, and I've found them to be superior to some of the custom grips out there.

Although I once had an original BD in the early 70's - I sold it because it was problematic for me to hang onto for 2nd shots, etc.

Last year, however, I ran across the only BD I've seen locally since back then (at a very decent IMHO price) - so I jumped on it.

This one is VERY controlable for me, what with the rubber bumpers & the extra weight of the EJ housing.

recent outing with my 720. co-worker reloads 240gr. @ 850 fps from a 4" bbl, a little less from this 3" bbl. considerably more THWAP! than the Hornandy 180gr.

I've had a Charter Arms Stainless Bulldog on my list for a while. Actually I have wanted on since the very first blued models came out. Now I see an add for Bass Pro fro the Taurus 445 44 Spcl snubbie. I thought those were discontinued. Are they making them again, and with all Taurus hating prejudice aside, has anybody had any experience with both the CA, and Taurus, and how do they compare?
Again, not you opinion of Taurus. Just actual owner experience, and comparison of the two.

Taurus makes a good gun in my book based on the ones I owned before they started using the built in lock.

if Taurus offered a free state gun id probably take the plunge on their 44 snubby. for now the only current production non-locked guns in .44spl snubby are the charter arms bulldog. in the 80s I got crap guns twice in a row from them. if I could try before I buy I would get one, but no more gamble on a gun that shouldn't have left the factory and paying for shipping and hoping its sent back fixed.

that said I have an old school off duty .38 that's a gem. :D

Have you looked at Taurus' hammer mounted lock? It's unlikely to ever be a problem. (IMHO, YMMV, Insert standard Internet disclaimer here.)

Not sure if this counts as a big bore snubbie, but I have a Charter Arms Pitbull In 40 S&W that I think is just awesome.

.

Between .44 Bulldogs, I had a (then) new .44 Special Taurus, a fixed-sight, stainless 5-shot, with 3"bbl - IIRC it was a Model 431 (?).

In any event it was a good shooter, w/o issues (or lawyer locks) - that I only sold because I needed cash at the time.
