Big Bore Revolvers

Well I finally did it. I purchased a S&W .460V Magnum with 5" barrel. It will probable take my lgs until December or so to get it in from S&W. It's not a gun that they keep in stock. In the meantime I am going to be getting the reloading equipment I need to reload for this gun. Because if I don't reload for it. It will be a very expensive range trip .460 ammo is currently going for about $60.00 a box of 20 rounds.

Your first round is going to about $600.00!

Second one, half that....and so on, down to about $10 a box, if you shoot enough.

Congrats! The 460 is a fun round to reload for.
I'm in the BFR club with guruatbol(although mine's in 460)

Let us know how she shoots when you get it.

careful with Hornady brass... I bought 60 new cases to reload for my 45 Black powder magnum ( a custom Walker that uses 460 S&W cases )

in my 1st 2 cases loaded, I cracked case mouths... apparently they were not annealed at the factory... I annealed them, & no other issues... maybe a bad batch or several ( saw a lot of reviews of cracked cases on Midway... but assumed my cartridges would be lower pressure ) didn't know the cases would crack on the 1st reloading... never had issues with Star Line brass...

Hornady brass problems...

That is sad/frustrating/alarming...I don't load too much (or shoot too much) any more but when I did I used a lot of Hornady products and never had a problem with them.

I realize EVERY company has problems...I hope Hornady would do something nice for you after this problem.

Maybe we can blame it on companies trying to keep up with demand but that really is no excuse for letting quality slide and could be bad for the company in the long run.

When I had my .460 I used nothing but Hornady brass with a heavy crimp and max loads with 300 and 395 grain bullets. I generally got about 6-8 reloads before the mouth cracked or the base got too flattened to fit in the shell holder. I know 6-8 reloads isn't a lot for revolver brass but the .460 is a different animal with chamber pressures over 60k I felt this was pretty good case life.

Well at first I am only going to be shooting factory .460 Magnums and .454 casull and reloads in 45 Colt. I need to save up to get another reloading press that will allow me to reload .460 and .454. the Dillon Square Deal "B" does not have dies for these calibers.

Just a side note if you are going to reload the .460. It uses a different shell holder then the .454 and .45lc. The rim is thicker.
