10mm Hornady 175 gr Flex Lock video

10mm Hornady 175 gr Flex Lock fired from 4.5" barrel EAA Witness through four layers of denim into calibrated 10% gelatin.

BB: 591.8 fps, 3.5"

Impact velocity: 1,153 fps
Penetration: 13.0"
Retained weight: 175.1 gr
Max expansion: 0.695"
Min expansion: 0.545"

So, like a moran I forgot that I had already tested this load but since I tested it again, I might as well publish the results. Unsurprisingly, the numbers are nearly identical to the first test.

I tested Underwood 220 gr hard cast (on my channel, if you're interested) but it yawed hard and left the block at about the 20" mark. I'll probably retest it some day with larger blocks but I'm sure it had plenty of steam left. I'll bet that load can get to 30".

I was pleasantly surprised to see the results using the Montana Gold bullet. Previous results I had seen several years ago in a different caliber were not impressive at all. Thanks for the reviews.

Meh... That's about exactly what the 165FTX 40S&W Critical Defense is in power and performance (506ftlbs, 15" of penitration with .72 expansion). Very controllable, low muzzle flash and excelent penetration.
This is a big reason why I carry a 40S&W more and leave the 10mm for realoads and woods use. I won't carry reloads for self defence but hunt with them often.

Numbers got reversed?

For that Prograde bullet, how can the maximum expansion be smaller than the minimum expansion?

I suspect the numbers were reversed.

Carrying a Wilson Combat 10 loaded with Hornady 180 xtp because that delivers one hole accuracy. Just finished steak & eggs at cafe java on the way to the range. Life is good.
