Bianchi shoulder holster question (Dfariswheel where are you)?

Hi,

I have a question about the Bianchi 9R shoulder holsters.

Does anyone here know the difference between the Bianchi 9R-1 and the 9R-2? I also saw somewhere that Bianchi made a 9R-3.

Somewhere on the Internet I read the 9R-1 is for J-frames and the 9R-2 is for K-frames.

Then I read that both of these holsters are the same size and will fit either J or K-frames and that the difference is that the 9R-2 has belt loops so it can be carried 2 ways, (shoulder and belt), so Bianchi called it the 9R-2.

So much information on the Internet and a whole lot of it is less than meets the eye.

The reason I ask is I have a S&W Mod. 649 J-frame with a 2 1/8" barrel and I want a 9R for it but if they are for different size frames or different size barrels, I want to get the right one.

Oh yeah, do these holsters hold the revolver in the holster by use of a spring, elastic or both perhaps? Once again, I've read different things about it.

Thanks,

Mike

The good news is, I have info.
The bad news is, it appears that Bianchi has discontinued the 9R "Special Agent" series shoulder/belt holster.

The 9R "Special Agent" was a version of the old Berns-Martin "upside down" shoulder holster, that could also be carried on a belt as a break front belt holster.
It retained the gun with a Bianchi wire spring that closed the front of the holster and internal cylinder cutouts.

The early version didn't have the belt mount feature and was made for Colt, S&W, and Charter Arms small frame revolvers with 2" to 3" barrels.
Later, it was offered for the S&W "K" frame and the belt mount feature was added.

"As I recall" (note the qualifier) the -1, -2, and -3 indicated the barrel length.
The -1 was for 2" barrels, the -2 was for 2 1/2", and the -3 was for 3" barrels.
The 9R was made for the medium frame S&W "K" with a 2 1/2" barrel, but I don't know what the model version on it was.

The Bianchi catalogs simply listed all of them as the 9R.

You could email Bianchi and ask what the -Dash numbers meant.

Bianchi made a 9R-3?

Over time I have used at least 6 Bianchi made a 9R holsters.
Some of them were belt on the belt--Some were on the belt. I love Berns-Martin holsters.
I have 3 Ruger SP-101 2 1/4 inch holsters. I first bought a Bianchi made a 9R-1 off E-bay. The SP-101 is a little large for the #1 so I had to remove the adjustment screw, so it would fit.
The Bianchi made a 9R-1 is for "J" frame
The Bianchi made a 9R-2 is for "K" frame
I have never seen a #3 and do not know what it fits.

Bianchi Model 9R qestion

After quite a bite of looking, I found a Bianchi Model 9R Shoulder hollster (with belt loops) for sale. My questions are simple ones:

1) Is the holster left-hand compatible like the B-M Lightning model?
2) Every model I've found lists S&W J-frames, will the 9R fit a Colt D-frame?

Rusty Sherrick makes a credible copy of the original Berns-Martin, and offers it for a Colt, too. http://www.c-rusty.com/pages/holsters/shoulder.html

1. I think so.
The way the harness "D" rings are attached, it looks like it would work for either hand.
The later 9R had belt loops on both sides so it could be worn on the belt.

2. I don't think so, but that depends on whether Bianchi made specific versions for the smaller S&W and the larger Colt.
The Colt has a significantly larger diameter cylinder and the frame is more the size of the S&W "K" frame. I think it would be too big if the holster was actually sized to fit the S&W.
