I was wondering if anybody else experiences this. I touch of a round and then try a quick follow up and it seems as if the trigger does not engage. It throws me off for a split second(too long). Is there a cure?

Hello. The HP requires a longer release of the trigger than some autos, notably the 1911. Perhaps, you are not releasing it quite far enough? I have noted this among better shooters used to 1911s. Best.

Sounds like maybe a mag safety problem. Does the pistol do this with all your mags? Does it do this at any time, or only after the pistol is warmed up a bit?

I removed the mag safety. It bothers me somewhat. The gun I shoot the most is a Glock 19, it seems to reset relatively fast, thus allowing me fast follow ups. I just wanted to know if this is inherent with the design(great gun) or is there a problem?

Mr. Camp is likely correct. You are probably not releasing the trigger to reset. You can decrease the reset distance on a Mark II hi-power easily by shortening the trigger lever but it's not so easy on a Mark III, since they have the firing pin safety. The reset can still be shortened, but you would still have take-up to overcome the spring of the firing pin safety. Either get used to releasing further, shorten the trigger lever (but not TOO much...then the gun won't fire), or have a trigger overtravel stop of some sort put in.

In that case, I think Mr. Camp is correct. I've heard people say the same thing about the reset distance on Sigs, too. Funny, I've never noticed this on a HiPower.

When I took the mag safety out of my arcus highpower once in awhile I would pull the trigger and nothing would happen. What was happening was without the mag safety the trigger spring wasn't putting enough pressure on trigger lever. So once in awhile when I pulled the trigger the trigger lever would come up and miss the sear lever because it would ride up in the forward portion of the channel cut in the frame. It would act just like a gun with a mag safety and no mag in it when you pulled the trigger. I took and tweaked the spring downward where it goes over the trigger lever and that fixed the problem. Now the lever always rides in the rear portion of the channel.

While I have always enjoyed shooting my Hi-Powers, this had bitten me on a number of occasions. That long trigger reset takes some adjustment. We shoot IDPA on Sat & Sun here. I shoot the 1911 on one day. I needed an ESP gun for the second day. I tried the Hi-power for a number of months. My times were 10 to 15 seconds slower with the Hi-Power. The long reset seemed to be the issue. I switched over to a 1911 in .38 Super and the times were much closer.

I am not saying the trigger reset is a problem. I just don't shoot as fast because I am use to the short reset on my 1911s. YMMV.
