Thank you, Sir.

I was thinking about the possibility of using 165grn .45 hand gun slugs on the .45-70 case. What do you guys think?

Well, .45 cal rifle slugs are actually .458" while .45 slugs for handguns are .451-.452" so you will probably have some problems. I have seen casters who cast lighter handgun bullets and size them as big as they can and load them in the .45-70. If you use regular .451" bullets you will have problems getting the bullet to stay in the case.

As gentle as the recoil is I'm going to lite load some 300gr. just as soon as i get time. If you can find one of these revolvers to try, by all means do it. They are a real hoot. With factory ammo they do have quite a bit of muzzle blast. Cost wise for the type of workmanship, and having a cartridge that should be just about perfect for dense cover hunting, they are very reasonable. I gave 750 for mine with two boxes of shells.
