My girlfriend and I are currently shopping for her first gun. She has been shooting a Ruger .22 of mine. She does not like the recoil of my .45's
So she is thinking of a 9mm.
I think that it is getting narrowed down to a Walther P99QA or a Kahr P9 or K9
I know that the best thing to do is go to a range and try them out but not many ranges here rent guns and the ones that do mostly have Glocks. So we have to rely on research.
The main things that we want are:
1. Ergonomic grip for small hands....Glock didnt make the cut. Like the Kahr in this aspect.
2. Decent consistent trigger. No DA/SA...Only looking at DAO or SA.
The lighter the trigger the better I would say. Dry fired a Kahr and it was not bad. Have heard that the P99QA ranges from 7-9lbs.

Any advice is appreciated.
Would just get her a 9mm in a 1911 style pistol but I am trying to keep it simple for her. She like the simplicity of pull the trigger and it goes boom.

Was informed that the Springfield XD is also in the mix. ;)

Can't vote in the poll until you specify WHAT the gun is for... House, Carry, Range, or all three...

But before you answer, I can tell you that the P9 is out if she's recoil sensitive. The P9 isn't bad, but it's the worst of the 3. My wife has an MK9, and I let her shoot my P9 at the range. She fired it once, handed it back, and said it kicked more than hers so she didn't like it. That says a lot, since the P9 is larger than the MK9.

For all practical purposes the P99 is a single action gun unless you decock it, then it's DA/SA. I've never tried the P99QA, but can't imagine the trigger being any better than the P99.

I just bought the K9 and have had one range visit with it. The trigger pull is smooth but long. The trick is to get used to the trigger pull to keep the gun steady throughout it. Aside from that, accuracy is good. Ergonomics are very good, small grip will be better for her. No safeties or chambered round indicator on the gun -- DAO like the glocks. Have never shot the 99, but reccommend the Kahr.

It will depend on her. If the Kahr K9 fits her hands the best then that is the one she should get. If it's the Walther P99, so be it. Let her choose.
