Best youth rifle?

I want to start teaching my daughter to shoot.

She's 3'6" and 42 lbs.

The Chipmunk and Cricket seem to be better sized, the Marlin youth cheaper, and there's a nice CZ that converts from single-shot to magazine feed by removing a plug.

Recommendations?

The chipmunk absolutely rocks. CZ makes a slightly larger bolt .22 that has a detachable mag., and they include a single shot dummy mag. with it. We just bought two of them, with the help of an N.R.A. grant, for our local Hunter ed./Youth marksmanship program. The marlins are nice as well.

Whatever you get, I hope that your daughter gets to pass it on to her children someday.:)

Another one to check out...

Take a look at the little Savage Model 71, amodern version of the old "Stevens Favorite". It only weighs 4.5lbs, has a 22" barrel.
It's a lever actuated falling block single shot that sounds like it would be just about enough rifle for a 40 pound youngster.
Also, the exposed hammer is a plus for training a kid, easier to check the safety status when loaded.:)

Chipmunk and Cricket are similar size. Why the Chip, which costs more?

How's the trigger pull? I heard it was heavy.

I suggest that as well as a .22, you get some sort of BB or pellet rifle and a bullet trap. She can practice indoors at home. (For BBs, home made bullet traps are easy.)

You can even have impromptu competitions at home with little set-up effort. Of course, you'll probably quit after she whips the socks off you. :D

Got the airguns. Heavy. And prefer real firearms. It's too easy to think of an airgun as a toy.

Beat me? Belike a task. I regularly outshoot the sniper unit at state combat match.
