Best way to ship handgun?

I got quoted $52 at UPS to ship a very light .380 500 miles! I couldn't believe it! A gun shop quoted me $40 or so. Is there a better way?

Also, this is a gun I am sending to the manufacturer for repair. I understand if I ship to them they can send directly back to me. Does that still apply if an FFL ships to them even with my return address in the package? Thank you.

Have you already contacted the manufacturer? Many of them will just send a call tag at no cost to you. If you have, and they refuse, I would go through the FFL you purchased the firearm from. Provided it wasnt just a transfer from your local FFL.

Barring local restrictions to the contrary, the maker can return the gun to the owner's front doorstep, IF that's the shipper's return address.
If shipped from your FFL's address, it will go back to him, not you.

So even if I pay more at UPS I won't have to pay transfer fees there and back. Ok, that settles that. Thanks guys. What a racket!

I emailed the manufacturer for a shipping label too. We will see if they man up.
