Best way to ship a Rifle?

Ground UPS? How about packaging? What's the best way to package the rifle?

Give me some shipping and packaging advice.

Also, what do I tell the manufacture if I want to be reimbursed for the shipping charges?

Thanks!
Albert

If you are shipping it to the manufacturer, I would call them and see what they recommend. If it is warranty, they might send you a pre-labeled shipping box with padding at all. That is a might so don't hold your breath.

Pay the difference, check out FedX. UPS in Denver had developed the technology to destroy a steel bar!!!!!!

I usually save my rifle's shipping boxes. They are designed just for that, shipping. Have had good luck using Priority Mail. It's comparable in cost to UPS Ground, but gets there faster. Less time = less potential for damage.

I always ship my rifles in a hard case, one of the $25 cheapos. Before I slip it in a brown shipping box, I generously wrap packing tape around all the hard case latches. So far, no losses or damage.

After recently having a rifle destroyed by UPS and the ensuing aftermath and related grief, I strongly recommend the cheapo hardcase with tape slipped into the brown box sealed with fiberglass packing tape...

Remember there are tree hugging gun haters out there looking to destroy your good because the stock is wood or guns kill people... Most of them must work for UPS...

I bought a few hard cases from Bushmaster, I think they were around $20 with shipping. That's the solution to shipping a rifle, if they damage it in that case, you have a valid claim for damages! :D

One Christmas, we temporarily rented out some warehouse space to UPS.

Inside, they set up a lift just behind the drive-in door. Just behind the lift, they set up a huge conveyor.

They backed the tractor-trailer trailer over the lift and disconnected it from the tractor. The lift raised up and snatched the entire trailer into the air, and started to tilt it backwards. As it tilted, the lift began to vibrate, shaking the packages down onto the conveyor.

I almost puked in disgust. From that day on, I'd suggest never to send ANYTHING through UPS.

Pay a little extra, if you have to, and send USPS Priority or Fedex.

I don't know if i posted this before, but i was on my way to work, driving past the UPS shipping terminal. I saw a truck pull out of their lot, with TWO packages just bouncing along on the truck's rear bumper! Hope those guys bought insurance...
