Best way to find local used guns?

How do you guys go about looking for personal sales in your area?

I try the paper, boards at work, word of mouth. I am wondering if I am missing some possibilities? I like personal sales more then going to local shops because they mark up their used guns something awful.

Pawn shops and gun shows are good sources, so are gun shops because sometimes folks trade guns in when buying another one. Be sure to have cash in hand when you are looking, good deals don't last for long...

Talk to a lot of gunowners in your area ....

In my area - we have one go/to shop ...that handles a lot of used guns / at a fair price. Anybody who has bought a lot of guns - knows the shop / or knows of the shop.

Talk to guys at the bigger gunshows...get to know guys that have guns that you might be interested in ...and ask them to call you / if they get something you want / especially if its rare.

If you're looking for deals on standard production guns ...anybody should have them ....you just need to shop often and intelligently.

Many locales have no problem with you having an ad in the paper.
Some places, like Florida, have gun sale sights geared towards the folks of that state. I also ask at a garage sale - especially if it is a moving sale, I see a lot of things like tools or fishing gear listed or it is an "estate" sale - here in Florida, that means someone grandpa died and the kids are selling everything off because no one wants to move anything

+1 regarding armslist. I've bought 3 guns through contacts there. I needed to use a lot of discretion... Paying attention to the quality of the presentation and wording of the ads and my communications with a seller, I've found that I can separate the wheat from the chaff pretty good... and only go for the good solid deals that come along now and then. A few people DO go on there and offer decent deals because, for one reason or another, they need to move a gun for some quick cash. Those can be worthwhile if I'm careful and go in with eyes wide open.

Cash is king, don't walk in and be a stroke, or act like one. You know who you are, and they hate you.
