best way to carry s&w model 36 2inch?

Any advice on the best way to carry a S&w model 36 (38 special) with a 2-inch barrel? I have a concealed carry shirt that I use in fall and winter. With a light jacket over it, the pistol is not noticeable.

But in Summer - which is basically 6 months out of the year here in MO - its a different story. How do these inside the pants holsters work? Would that be the way to go?

I've already tried the classic shoulder holster rig and I felt like I was carrying a toaster around all day.
 
Use a IWB holster.

With the IWB J frame just clip it inside your pants in the appendix position (if you are right handed) and the spleen position if you are left handed.

Notice that S&W 60 with my old IWB holster (I still use.)

I just just clip it on in the appendix position and a t-shirt conceals it perfectly.

How are you dressing in the summer? T shirt and shorts? Or something more business/formal?

The 36 will fit pretty well in just your pocket, without any kind of holster.

I use a Mika pocket holster. You can google him on line. This is my typical carry in shorts or even dress pants. If wearing a suit the 642 or G 27 goes on my ankle with a primary in a shoulder or standard waist band ... depending on the mission or threat level.

I find the pocket carry easy on my hip and back. It also gives me inconspicuous ready access on the gun just by putting my hand in my pocket. It tends to be a bit heavy for most gym trunks unless you can tighten up the string in the waist.

Often I will use a product called Thunderwear which lies flat just under your front waist band. You can google that as well. It works especially well with gym shorts. Takes practice though not to pee on it while draining the snake. :eek:
 
I carry my M36 3" in an IWB at the 4 o'clock position, it works well. I have a Holster Store leather IWB for it, cost !out $30.
 
I drop mine in my pocket. Nothing at all in that pocket except the little revolver. When I'm working in a plainclothes assignment, I carry it in a standard belt holster. I favor an older Don Hume, but I've ordered a Safariland 6377 for it.

IWB, aka: Mexican carry.

A brown or black shoelace (depending upon trouser color), with a loop tied in each end for the belt. (I use leather boot lacing, but cloth laces work just as well)

The straight length should be adjusted for a particular gun, so the when it's tucked over the top of the beltline into the waistband, it is long enough to hold the gun below the beltline, excepting the grip.

When "holstering", insert the muzzle between the straight section and the inside of the trouser beltline.

The retention point for revolvers is the cylinder bulge, autoloaders is the front of the TG.

The trouser belt should be tight enough to retain the gun from moving upward from walking/running, etc - but not tight enough to retard the draw (practice).

Use either a....

Bianchi #3 or Uncle Mike's pocket.

On the 4th I was hiking in Southern Ohio, in Cargo shorts and the J was in front left pocket. was comfortable all day.
 
Never use those nylon clip holsters! They're uncomfortable without a shirt and they wear through. The real problem is the clip will work loose.
 
Only problem with pocket carry without a holster is that eventually the barrel will wear a hole in the pocket.;) For real.

I have a very thin, light OWB holster that allows a Polo-type shirttail to conceal the piece very well. I often use the same holster as a pocket holster.
The holster I am referring to is the top right one in this picture with the Model 60. It has a rawhide retention loop. Those are all j-frames.
 
I'm kind of ashamed to admit that I've never got around to getting a real pocket holster. If I'm wearing a suite/sport coat I use a blanchi clip-on IWB with retention strap. In my pocket (most of the time) I use a uncle mike's cloth IWB with the plastic clip cut off. Soft enough to not rub the piece, thin enough to not add bulk, sticky enough to stay in the pocket.
 
Here's my carry rig...well actually it's my wife's...with one of our home made holsters. Both of us carry at the old FBI position, ie. at 4 o'clock behind the strong side hip bone. Rod



Home made rig with a S&W M637 mounted up.
We've long since dispensed with the keeper strap as unnecessary.

Bianchi "Professional" IWB. I like the covered trigger and the side protector that keeps the hammer spur from digging into my side...
