Best Value Range Finder

My parents bought me a Wildgame Innovations range finder for Christmas and its absolute junk and doesn't work. I am going to take it back and get the money back so i can get a better one. I don't want to have to spend alot on one as i believe this one was only $100 so i dont want to spend much more.

Is there any good quality and accurate range finders out there for under $200that will read out to 1000 yards?

Nikon and Bushnell have laser rangefinders for less than $200, and if you go with a refurbished one from Nikon, the price gets down around $175. But, I really don't think you're going to find anything that reads out to 1000 yards that you can buy for $200. And be advised that the range advertised for the various range finders is usually max range under ideal conditions and a reflective target. Real ranging on a small target like a coyote might be as little as 60% to 75% of what the max indicated range of the unit is. Still, you probably don't really need a rangefinder that reads to 1000 yards. I'd guess that a refurbished Nikon 600 would do just fine. I've got a Nikon 600 and it's usually good to about 400 yards on a critter of coyote size or larger. I admit that I would like something that would give a reading out to 600 yards, so I guess that means I need a Nikon 800 or the equivalent.

Nikon makes great glass at a pretty good price, I bought the Nikon 550 last year for 280 and the price has dropped a lot since then.

All I can tell you is that if you buy a cheap range finder you get what you pay for. I am on my 4 th. and it is a Leica 1200, by far the best I`ve ever had, but it still leaves me wanting a better one.
