best used revolver for $250-$275

looking to buy a used 357 and am looking for something reliable and preferably stainless what are your suggestions? Please exclude charter arms and Rossi as I have had issues with both brand Revokvers .

J and G sales has smith and wesson model 64 .38 special revolvers for $269 IIRC. If you wanted to go with a blued gun, Budsgunshop has smith and wesson model 10 .38 special revolvers for $269 also. model 64 is basically a stainless model 10.

EDIT: Didnt read your post close enough, your looking for a 357. sorry

I'd look for a used S&W or a Ruger GP100. You might have to pony up a little more cash, but it would be worth it rather than buying a lower quality gun.

I am afraid that's going to be a hard price point to hit. Two popular stainless .357s that have been made for decades are the Ruger GP100 and Smith & Wesson 686. A used one of those is probably closer to $400-$500, and if you did find one much cheaper I'd be worried something might be wrong with it.

If you went with an old Smith & Wesson 10 (blued/nickel .38 special, made since the 1940s), you're probably in the low 300s?

Taurus 65, Ruger Gp 100, Ruger 'Six" series,
Smith 581,586,686
if you can find them close to your price range,
it will be harder to find the rugers and smiths for 300 though..
at least in decent shape.

while the Taurus is not a smith, I've been pleased with mine..

Any Smith and Wesson or Ruger double action .357 if you can find one. Gunbroker has a couple of SW Model 65s starting at $300 so a $275 find is not out of the question. The Model 65 is probably SW's most no-frills .357. I bought one used that I keep as my bedside revolver.

Your best bet in a Ruger is probably the Service Six. Gunbroker has one starting at $275 and a buy now price of $325 (you do have to pay shipping and a transfer fee to a local dealer). Again, if you get lucky you might find one locally at your price point.

Personally, I would save up a few more bucks if you have to in order to buy a Ruger or SW. Colts are untouchable and the other makers (Taurus, Charter Arms, Ross) are up and down on quality.

At that price range I would be looking at a S&W Model 10. They can handle 38spl.+P loads and are going to have more of a choice of getting a good gun at the price. I'm not saying you wont find a 357 at that price but you better check it over real good before buying.

Getting a quality used 357 mag in that range can be a challenge, I'd keep my eye peeled at local Gun shops and pawn shops...a Ruger Six series may pop up ..in my humble opinion they are hard to beat.. a Dan Wesson may roll through a pawn shop at at decent price occasionally or a High Standard may be found (built by Dan Wesson)

My LGS sold a Astra 357 blued 3inch barrel in excellent condition today for 250.00 OTD These are solid guns built on a N size frame...

A good solid S&W Model 13 may pop up in your range (LE trade in)

A .357 in that price range will take some searching. However, police trade-ins in .38 special abound and would still be an excellent choice.

Make sure you hit all the pawn shops and little gun shops. I once came across a scratched up Dan Wesson for $250. I didn't have the funds at the time, or else I would have jumped on it.

I too have been looking for a reliable used revolver in this price range for a few months. From my research, your best bet would be a ruger security/speed/service six, or an older dan wesson. Also these will be closer to the 300-350 price range. There is also the used Taurus poly protector (not recomended) or the EEA Windicator.

I would look for a Ruger Police Service Six 357 magnum 4 inch. You can find this for under $300. Reliable, tough as nails and will out last you. I have had mine longer than any of my 357 magnums for good reason. They last.
