Which is the most accurate price guide for used firearms? I saw a big thick yellow one the other day (cant remember the name) but it was only the 3rd edition. What do you folks suggest?

gunbroker.com

Find a few examples of the handguns you like, select to 'watch' these auctions, and then you can track their going prices. The 'watch' feature will enable you to see the final selling price of each firearm.

Buying guides necessarily reflect a lag due to their publishing schedules.

But GB isn't perfect either. The prices reflect a national market, so they're often a bit higher than what you might pay in many regional markets.

I use GB, auctionarms, budsgunshop and gunsamerica for comparisons. Toss in a half dozen gun shows/year and a monthly tour of my 4 fav gun stores...I feel comfortable with gun prices.

Shop your local dealers that deal in used guns / get some info from gunshows / look over sites like gunsamerica, etc - and you will probably find a trend.

I don't think any of the written price guides really take into account local flucuations in price or the impact a new model of gun in the same caliber may have on the existing used market.

You really have to develop your own instincts - and rely on stores or dealers you trust for some input.

I use gunsamerica.com mostly(just for prices and selection).

But you can also check out places like Buds Gun Shop and J&G Gun Sales on the internet as well as many other gun resellers.

You would be amazed at the different prices you can find.

But sure ,if you go to buy that you buy from proven gun resellers if you do internet deals.

Then at least you have some hope that everything will go well and some recourse if it does'nt.

I've learned people who write these gun value books write books for a living, not buy and sell guns.

Also on gunbroker look at what guns actually sold for, not what they are asking.

Depend what part of the country your in.

Here in Vegas people are asking almost new prices for used guns. That' why I just buy new guns. Although I got an old 80s J-frame (37) in Good condition for $200 here.
