Best Time of Year to Buy Firearms?

I am somewhat a new gun shooting hobbyist. I have been purchasing guns online, at gun shows and from local dealers. I cannot figure out is there any time of year that is better than the rest for buying guns? I know the last couple of years have been tumultuous, but maybe some one with decades of buying experience has an opinion.

Right after the close of the fall hunting season and before tax refund time, then again late summer.

Jan-Feb, Aug. are historically slow months for gun sales. This has not been the case in the last couple years and election years with strong Democratic runners tend to keep sales up.

The rule is, shop for the best price, but if you see that milsurp, antique, or used firearm that you want in 98% condition and have the money, buy it now, cause it won't be there tomorrow. New guns you can get almost anytime. Only took me 40 years to learn that.

I buy all year round, but right after Christmas seems to be good. Folks are in between holiday buying and tax time and the pawn shops are choked with guns pawned for Christmas cash. April and May is when folks have tax refunds to spend. Up here, the Boeing bonus checks definitely impact local sales.

Depends on the gun. Handguns and AR style rifles don't seem to be seasonal, but do flow with political winds. Hunting rifles and shotguns can certainly be seasonal, on used guns. It is pretty rare for new guns to fluctuate much on price, but used stuff at pawn shops etc. can vary a lot.

Buying new: Black Friday through Jan end.

Selling used: pre-hunting season, post tax refund and near Xmas bonus.

Buying used: I'll bet January is best...no hits on ads and no money with those that do!

If last year was to be trusted I would say the last few months of the year. There were quite a few really good factory rebates offered that ended December 31.

I was talking with the local pawn shop owner (also one of the bigger FFLs in the area) and he told me his biggest time for taking in used stuff is the end of Spring semester (this is a university town). Kids graduating or just going home for the summer want cash.

This has been my observation as well.
