Best tac light for my USP?

Does the Insight M3 work well with the USP? I have heard so-so things about the UTL, and it costs around 200 bucks. If it matters, it will be for both my USP9f and USP45f.

You know SVTNate, I'm kind of in the same boat as you. Looking for a light for my USP .45.

I'm thinking of going for a Surefire light for two reasons:

1) Easy to detach and use as a normal light if need be...

2) Going with one of the new rechargeable ones to have the ability, well, to rejuice it.

I'm kind of wary about any light that drains the battery in such a relatively short amount of time, as practice with the light on and mounted would certainly be of paramount concern. If it went quick and I had to sport for one of those batteries, I might be distracted by $$ instead of practicality.

Either way, I'm sure any of these lights would be a great addition to the USP. I'm going to follow this thread closely for comments on any of those mentioned...

BTW, I'm not sure if the M3 will fit on USPs...

My shootin' buddy has a UTL on his and absolutely loves it. For giggles he brought it campin' this summer and man is it bright in the campground. Indoors it lights up the whole house.
It's pricey but I believe well worth it. Good Luck, J. Parker

Will the M3 fit on my HK?
No, the HK USP requires the UTL (Universal Tactical Light), also manufactured by Insight, which is available exclusively through H&K dealers. The rail systems are different, so the lights are not interchangeable.

I think the UTL MKII is a fine piece of hardware. If I remember correctly, the complaints were mainly about the MKI (a few years back).

As for battery cost, the 123A 3v camera battery that they eat up aren't too bad, I think you can get 2 packs at Walmart for around $5-6.

From Remtek's site:
The UTL is no "ordinary" flashlight. Its new bulb technology results in a beam so bright it exceeds the SOCOM pistol requirements for full facial recognition at 25 meters.

I think that's bright enough for me :)

OW my eyes!

One more thing I was thinking about... I wouldn't worry about output of the UTL. There's an optimal balance between just simply lighting up the room in the middle of the night - and throwing out so much candlepower that you actually blind yourself going from near total darkness to a bright, potentially dangerous situation (know that painful feeling when you flip the bathroom lights on at 4am  - kinda like that except with a bad guy trying to get you)

Sure you can add a higher output bulb or go to one of the Surefires which has much greater output (and price) - but I think the UTL design has probably been well scrutinized for the proper/balanced output.

I'm sure that someone with experience with the great Surefire handheld lights can shed a little more "light" on the subject - IIRC you don't always want the most incredibly bright light for inside your home.
