I have bought a couple of cheap spotlights and got what I paid for -CHEAP!!!!
Would appreciate recommendations on good spotlight - rechargeable and good battery life, possibly dual/multi range light. In the 1 MM to 10MM candle power (lummens equivalent??). Ideas on places to buy and price range. Tell me the good ones and BAD ones in your experience.

I live in the country and use one for deer, wild dogs, lost cattle and horses, and to counter jacklighters. My 3 cell MagLight getting me by for now.

how far do you need the light to go? how long do the batteries need to last? whats your price range?

my 3 watt Olight (led) lasts 12 hrs at 90 lumens and 150 hrs at 7 lumens.

i also have a 3 D cell maglight and it (with new batteries) is almost the same brightest as my Olight on the 7 lumen setting.

on the 250 lumen setting, it has a pretty bright spot light at ~80ft. (but only lasts 3 hrs, gets fairly warm too)

the Olight cost quite a bit though, i paid 95 for the light and another 30 for the rechargeable battery and charger.

My Girlfriends Father has one of those huge 12 volt spotlights from Harbor Freight or some such place. Claims 1,000,000 candlepower. I have a hand held Olight M30 with 2 x 18500 batteries (Rechargeable) and it is MUCH brighter than that "spotlight." It is an LED light rated at 700 lumens out the front.

The Olight M30 is more "floody" than a true thrower. If you're looking for a pure thrower, then you'll be happier with a Jetbeam M1X, as I understand these throw better (due to reflector design). These are LED lights and will run about $100-$150 depending on where you buy them from.

If you're looking for a MEGA light, then I would suggest the Polarion HID (If you're independantly wealthy and have need for a $1,200 to $2,500 search light.)

If you're looking for something a bit more "reasonable" then the Microfire HID series have had good reviews. ($350ish to $600 ish depending on model and place of purchase.)

Do yourself a favor and take a peek at www.candlepowerforums.com and take some notes. It gives me a headache every time I read those posts.

Here are some pictures that may help you decide on a flashlight. Left to right:

I have a Surefire G3 with a WolfMan LED upgrade total cost about $100 and it is brighter than the 1 million candle power $40 spotlight at Walmart. The G3 is also a lot easier to carry and will last over an hour.

The one at Walmart Dorsey Brand I think, will only last 15 minutes.
