I am helping my wife outfit her MAK-90 to her satisfaction, and I must say I like the gun - enough that I was thinking of getting an AKM pattern rifle for myself. So far:
- I'm looking for a shooter, not a collector piece, so matching serial numbers, pre or post ban are somewhat moot to me.
- Whatever I get, I will most likely put some Ironwood Designs furniture on it, so condition of the wood isn't a big deal, and IWD makes furniture for both straight as well as angle cut receivers.
- I will likely get it coated at some point (see this thread where I'm asking about what might work for my wife's MAK), so superficial scratches and rust isn't that big a deal either - as long as there isn't any major pitting and the like, I'm fine.
- I will probably experiment with adjusting the sights; things like Tech-Sights or perhaps a Texas Dog Leg rail with a rear peep sight appeal to me.
- The MAK-90's chrome lined barrel and thicker receiver appeals, but my priority is to make sure everything's straight and not canted.
