Best source of "project" MAK-90

I am helping my wife outfit her MAK-90 to her satisfaction, and I must say I like the gun - enough that I was thinking of getting an AKM pattern rifle for myself. So far:
  • I'm looking for a shooter, not a collector piece, so matching serial numbers, pre or post ban are somewhat moot to me.
  • Whatever I get, I will most likely put some Ironwood Designs furniture on it, so condition of the wood isn't a big deal, and IWD makes furniture for both straight as well as angle cut receivers.
  • I will likely get it coated at some point (see this thread where I'm asking about what might work for my wife's MAK), so superficial scratches and rust isn't that big a deal either - as long as there isn't any major pitting and the like, I'm fine.
  • I will probably experiment with adjusting the sights; things like Tech-Sights or perhaps a Texas Dog Leg rail with a rear peep sight appeal to me.
  • The MAK-90's chrome lined barrel and thicker receiver appeals, but my priority is to make sure everything's straight and not canted.
So what's the best source for such a gun; should I be scouring the local pawn shops? Any particular online spots besides Gunbroker? I've already put the word out with friends and my local gun store, but other places to look would be welcomed. If there are any particular models other than the MAK I should be considering, I'm open to suggestions there also.

nothing wrong with the mak-90 but you might consider the saiga as another option.
the saiga is similiar to the mak in that they was both altered from there ak form to allow them to be imported and while the mak is easier to convert back its also hasnt been imported for 15 years so finding one in good shape and at a decent price isnt as easy.
