The S&W 342PD is the lightest of the Centennial series, weighing only 10.8 ounces. I have several Centennials in Stainless, Airweight and other snubbies
like the Bodyguard. I've tried em all. Sure if I'm expecting trouble my Glock 30 or Kimber 45 will be on me but so will my 342PD. Backup gun extrodinaire.

This is the caddilac of snubbies. This should be called the S&W Alwayscarry.

In pocket holster it doesnt pull your pants down.

In an ankle holster yoou can still dance an Irish Jig and ne'r step on a sword.

In a shoulder holster your back never aches.

It shoots +P's like a champ.

Its the gun you can carry at the beach as its rustproof scandium!!

Its accurate and it does kick a little but its nothing to us men. Its expensive but like the shampoo commercial but I'm worth it!!!

Its the best darn carry gun I have and I have Glock fullsize- Mini's, Kimbers and others. In hot weather its easy to carry too.

Forgettabout it!!!!!!!

I have the 340PD and think that having the ability to shoot .357's (as well as .38 specials) was worth the extra $20 I had to spend for the 340PD.

i too love my 342. after carrying it for a while anything else feels like a freakin bar bell hanging off me

340PD i agree with all the scandium guns too...love my new "toy". I know its not but you get my drift, treat them all as if they are loaded

i would have bought a 342 if they still made them cause I dont shoot .357's out of mine. I think I will replace my GF's POS North American Arms .380 with a used 342PD. I find her carrying my 340pd in an ankle holster all the time now because she doesnt want any bulges on her hips.

Carried the 342 for 2+ years right after they came out. Had trigger tricked out and tritium sight put on front. Loved it. But ... sold it to an older female student for $500 and put another $100 with it when 340s came out. 340 is more versatile, but just not the same "baby" as 342. Lady who bought it still declines to sell it back to me! :(

Whatever floats your boats. I'm happy with my 642 (which costs 1/2 the price) in spite of its "devastating" weight of 15 ounces. I've shot .357 through a 340 and am convinced that it's NOT a good self-defense round from a snubbie. After the FIRST shot, it's damn hard to immediately acquire your target. If you ever need to really use a S&W to save your life, you'll need to get off a few rounds as rapidly as possible with ACCURACY.

Hey, if 3 less ounces are worth $300 to you, then party on :) .........

I like paying more. I also like watching my buddies (who think they can handle any recoil) trying to prove themselves by firing a full cylinder of .357 mag's in a 12 oz gun.

same here

i have the 340 & i thought of getting the 642 cause its more practical, and i agree with WildeWhenWet i dont like 357's out of it, and wont be able to handle when you need it. but agree with goosevr1, i love to sneak in a 357 for my cousin...he didnt know what the hell it was LMAO!

Hey WWW, if the bullet does not get 'em the 6' burst of flame will. ;)

Yep, 158 grain (or greater) bullets are pretty brutal. With 125's, for me anyway, it's much easier to get back on target quickly.

But ... the biggest improvement for mine was Crimson Trace "overmoulded" grip (Model 305 - not the little one). Back-on-target time improved significantly due to (1) more grip surface (2) laser.

The 60-something year old lady who bought my 342 tried it with CT grip and immediately ordered one for her (one ounce lighter) gun. Her hand now bleeds far less frequently (from cylinder latch) when she comes out to the range and puts 100 rounds at a time thru the "Baby". ;)

I beg to differ. I would rate the 642 a notch higher and put it on par with the 242 with its anchor heavy weight of 18oz w/o it payload of 7 38+p's.

S&W Snubby's

Lots of good snubbies out there, yes the 637 and 642 are currently
stealing the S&W market; but what about these 2" inchers: 10, 15,
19 (2.5"), 36, 37, 38, 40, 42, 60, 64, 66 (2.5")? Did I forget any?
Any and all of these would serve quite well tucked away under
clothing.

Best Wishes,
