So I'm looking for a new scope for a rem700 5r and ,I have around $450-500 to spend on it. Will be used for hunting and target shooting with ranges not to exceed 300 yards. (that's the longest shot I will have.) Soo, what should I get I'm open to anything thanks for the help!

^^
this. a 3x9 might be sufficient also

Depends some on what your targets will be.If I was spending my own money,I'd likely get a 2.5-8 Vari-X3 Leupold with a Boone and Crockett reticle, for most purposes at the range you describe. If its purely a small target/varmint gun,I might go for a little more magnification. You can get that scope in a 3.5-10.I have never regretted buying a Leupold Var-X 3.

All the above recommendations sound pretty solid. I'd also take a look at Sightron. I've got a silhouette scope by them (II Big Sky series), and have been pleased with it. They appear to have quite a few options in that price range.

Bushnell Elite 4200 or 6500, Ziess Conquest or VXIII. Though I had to send my VXIII back to Leupold for glare issues. I've heard goo things about the Vortex scopes and wouldn't mind getting my hands on one as well as a Trijicon. Burris offers some solid options as well. I'm no Nikon fan, I've had issues with them and wouldn't recommend one to anyone.

Scope Deal

This post makes me think about trying out selling off some of my surplus. I have that Nikon Monarch 12 power I could sell at about half price. Present pricing is about $400 or more new and this scope was on my 30-06 for one season. I sold the 30-06 and kept the scope. I like to tinker with a lot of hardware and this includes scopes, bases, rings, and optics. I should look into a buy/sell forum.
Members here could score some pretty good deals if the items suit their intended purpose.

Another vote for the Vortex Viper line...

I have 2 and can't say enough good things about them...

2-7x32 on my AR and

6.5-20x44 on my target rifle...

Scope

Here is by far the best I have found for under $450.00. In fact these work so well for me I have 5 of them mounted on a 7mm Rem Mag, .308, .223, and a .338 Win Mag. All hold zero I can dial up or down for shots and all shots so far have been repeatable. The turrets match the reticles and have 80 MOA's of elevation. You can go here to look at them and then Call or send Matt an e-mail and tell him I sent you. Web site is http://www.sightwonders.com
