I realize there is no such thing as inexpensive .338LM ammunition but.. For those of you who shoot factory ammo where have you found the best price?

Thanks!

I reload for mine- 300gr SMK, Privi brass, magnum primers, 92gr Retumbo powder. A little under $4.00 per round. A pound of Retumbo goes away in a hurry...

$4 per round?!? If you already have brass, it should be less than $1 a round!! If you need brass,, make that .25 cents a round considering its 2.5 a lapua case and from everything I have read, they should easily go 10+ loadings. Even at a super conservative 5 reloads a case that will be a total cost of 1.50 a shot. It's honestly not as expensive as I thought. I'm just getting into reloading, and the savings on these huge rounds is enormous. I paid the same dollar a round for 308 factory ammo!

Honestly, I think the cheapest round is HSM rounds. Its like 2.5 a round. If your just starting you can get those, and it is said that the brass is norma brass. So you can save your shells and reload those!

Bullets range between about 80 cents and 2 dollars apiece, Powder alone is about 30-40 cents a round, primer is cheap at about 3-4 cents, and brass is about .25 cents a load, amortizing 2.50/round over 10 reloads.

Hard to get it under $1.50 even using cheap bullets.

Trying to remember what I paid for everything. Yeah, probably under $3 per round. Lapua Brass is about $2.50 per, Lapua Scenar bullets are about $1 per. After I feel really comfortable with the rifle, I will move up to Lapua brass and bullets.
I took an antelope at 500 yards last year. At that distance the bullet is just warming up. I am going to try for a pig at 800 yards or so this year.

I guess if you guys are going to your local cabelas/overpriced store... Here's what I paid AFTER 8% tax and all just this last week...

Berger bullets 165 for 250 (66 cents a round) (you can get even cheaper for smk's.. 57cents a piece, or scenars are 74 pre 100 which is 74 cents per round)

Primer 33 for 1000 (3 cents a round)

H1000 156 per 8LB ( 26 cents a round considering a hot load of 94gr)

So to me that looks like:
300gr SMK:86 per round
300gr berger:95 per round
300gr scenars:1.03 per round

This is assuming your reloading spent shells from factory ammo like me. Otherwise add .25 cent for lapua brass per reloading...

Thats anywhere from 1.11 to 1.28 per round. So Scenars/Bergers/SMK are all excellent bullets. The only way your going to spend more than a $1 a bullet is either your overpaying, buying the bullets by the single, or buying the extremely high priced custom bullets.
