Best personal defense Kahr K9 sights?

I have been looking at a Kahr K9 for CCW and home defense. This will be my only weapon so it will need to fill a number of rolls. I will not be doing alot of long range shooting, but want the best possible weapon (with accessories) that I can afford for personal defense. I have been debating on sights and thought I would get your experiences and suggestions.

What I can tell you is that I know that I will probably want some time of "night sight" on the weapon and beyond that I am reading "commercials" in the magazines and not any real-life experiences. Please advise me of the "best" personal defense sights for my Kahr K9. Price is not THE determining factor, but it does play into the scenario. I will buy what is most reccomended, but I do not HAVE to buy a "name brand" product if there is another "generic" brand that is just as good.

One that I have seen and it seems to make sense is the AO sight system. Any feedback. Of course the tritium type of sights are impressive, but that doesn't really mean the type of sight, just the illumination portion of the sight. Please advise--

Kahr's own night sight is as good as it gets. The only possible other brand would be a Novak night sight. I'd just order my Kahr with the factory night sights. You'll have the best sight available, plus they will be installed RIGHT.
Kahr sights are installed damn tight at the factory, and can be a bear to replace. Let them do it to start with.

I have a K9 with factory night sights and they are very good sights. I now carry a Kahr P9 but I put AO pro night sights (standard dot) on it because my eyes are getting a little old and they give a faster sight picture for me.

One thing to remember is the factory sights on the Kahrs are extremely hard to remove. Most people brake them when removing them, even simths. I sent my P9 back to Kahr and had them put the AO sights on for me. They didn't charge anything and it only cost me the shipping.

Good luck with your Kahr. They are fine guns.

David, The factory sights are as nice as it gets. I faced the same delima when wanting night sights for my K9. I ended up buying the factory front night sight and had it installed by a local gunsmith. It did take some fitting to get it in the dovetail and yes, the original sights were in the dovetail REALLY tight. The front sight tritium insert works very well for me. In training in low light, the sight just jumps put at you. Place it on the target and squeeze.
There are other options available sich as the Heinie straight 8 (reasonable) and the Novak triitiumm set (very expensive), but the Kahr triitium sights work just as well.

Do the factory installed tritiums use contrasting colors between the front and rear dots?

I had a set of PT Nightsights installed, which sport a green front dot, and offer a multitude of color options for the rears. All of my night sight equipped platforms include a green front, with amber rears. I am happy with their performance and price.

Also took a tour of the "factory", you should see the safe full of tritium vials...looks like a firefly convention.

My K-40 has trijicons on it, and they seem bigger and brighter than the nightsights on my Kimber CDP (which I assume has Meprolights now that they distribute them). Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. If you want to cover all the bases, you can get the sights with Tritium vials surrounded by fiber optic material for low light and night shooting, though I can't recall the name. Also check into the elite trigger, supposedly makes Kahr's standard trigger better. I just have the regular trigger right now:( ;) :D

waltherpfive,

Did you send the whole gun back to Kahr or just the slide?I would think you could just send the slide, unless they test fire it to make sure sights are lined up.

If slide only, it would probably save shipping aggrevations...

Hoppy, I just sent the slide to Kahr via USPS Priority. I forget what it cost, about $4.50 I think. It came back with the sights perfectly sighted in and on target. They didn't even charge me return shipping. That was back when Michell was in CS and she was great about handling things like that. I was sorry to hear that she had left Kahr. :(
