What Mr. Irwin said. He mention the rimz about a year ago in another thread, and at the time,I was skeptical of plastic moon clips. But, Mike Irwin has never been wrong, and so I tried some. He was right. They are durable and easy to load and unload. You can get them from beckhamdesign.com for 6.50$/5 full moon clips. ezmoonclip.com also sells them. The rimz clips come in two sizes: one to fit the newer 625's, and another for the older 625's, 25's, and 1917's.
If you want metal, wilson combat makes them, but the standard through the years has always been the clip from ranch products. Midwayusa.com sells the ranch full moons (product # 144819) for 8$ /8 clips. The ranch, 1/3 moon clips (midway product # 126763) are available for 7$ for 25 clips.
About 99% of the time, I use the 1/3 moon clip. They're easier to load and unload, they lie flat, and you can store or carry them clipped in a cartridge box.
What Mr. Wyosmith said about .45 auto rim is true, and speer used to make a cannelured, 225 grain .451 bullet, which worked just dandy in the .45 AR. However, for a some of us, the availability and cost of .45 auto rim brass can shift what you use.
