Folks,

What's the best M-16 or AR-15 lookalike that shoots .22LR ammo? I'm looking for a durable, accurate toy for putting holes in paper at the outdoor range. Already have a few 10/22's and they're great. Time for something that looks different.

Thanks in advance,

An Italian firm made Jager labeled AR15 .22RF replicas. The manufacturer could be Armi Jager. I just saaw one this weekend, used for $650. They actually used some AR parts like the stock set and handguards and are very difficult at more than 3 feet to tell from an AR15. They are definitely pre-ban and I rarely see them.

I own an Armi Jager AP74. It is a near duplicate of an M16. It is "pre-ban" with a bayonet lug and flash suppressor. I have a picture of one and a link to "Military Style" .22's with a forum on my website (click my profile).

BTW, I paid $100 for mine about 7 months ago. Checked prices on mags. A 20 rnd is $40.

You may find one at the above mention forum.

And No, mine is not for sale :D

there are 2, 22lr uppers due on the market

Victor arms has a blow back design that uses a a bolt handle http://www.victorarms.com/html/body_v22_conversion.html

Leitner/Wise has a 22lr upper that mimics the charging handle action on the AR http://www.leitner-wise.com/LW15.22.htm

I have had the L/W unit on order for over a year and have about given up on it. They used to tell me wait 2 more weeks, now they do not even answer the phone.

Here is a cool web page on 22lr military style weapons: http://mem.tcon.net/users/5010/5491/rimfires.htm

it includes blue book values

There is a pistol caliber forum on AR15.com http://forums.ar15.com/cgi/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=Rimfire+and+Pistol+Calibers&number=22

if i had the $ i would by an American 180 in semi auto http://www.american180.com/
Can you say 275 round drum?

I would have to agree the Jaeger M16 or its other variants(Mitchell/Jaeger) are top notch. I've purchased 2 of them in the past three years; one for $125 and one for $160; they are both accurate and can print 1" @ 50yds. and 2" @ 100 yds. with a cheap(Leapers $35) handle mounted scope. They look just like a real AR (not like the Armscor models) and take down like it also. When I bought a real AR I was surprised how much I knew about it's functionality because or the similarity of the Mitchell/Jaeger. If you can find one. . . . .BUY IT ! ! !

P.S. As mentioned earlier; the magazines are worth their weight in gold. Hard to find and super expensive. The gun comes with one 15 rounder.
