Best iron sights on a rifle, your opinions.

Broad question. Answer depends on what you're shooting (benchrest paper or snapshot game), what you're used to, what rifle and caliber you're talking about, what lighting you're most likely to shoot under, etc, etc. Most important in sights is sight height (IMHO). If your cheek has to come out of the stock to gain the sights (eg: AR15 for many), your learning curve will be that much flatter.

For quick shots, I like the ghost ring system, particularly those from Ashley Outdoors. I think you'll see as many other opinions here as there are posters. There's no right or wrong answer.

Its like Rich said, no right or wrong answer. Around here in my youth most rifles were .22 Rimfire and all that was used was a notch type iron sight. Fast as fire but not all that accurate. The first peep sight I ever saw was in the service, there I learned just how accurate they could be. Again like Rich said if you take the insert out of a peep and make a ghost ring (I just learned what that term meant, I always thought it was just a "coarse" peep :D :D :D)you are combining speed and accuracy as the eye will automatically center the front sight. The best answer is use what you find works for you. Both have advantages and dis-advantages

M1/M14. No question about it. Some of the best sights ever put on a rifle.

Honorable mention: Original Springfield 1903. Not the A3. Some of the best tangent sights I've ever seen.
