Best iron sights for revolver

Hi,

First, some background. I am the proud owner of a S&W 686P+ (6"). After I got the revolver a few years back (my first handgun and my very first gun as well!!), I found the basic iron sights a little difficult to work with. I mounted a red-dot on it, and was able to improve my shooting considerably. Now from a bench, i can shoot pie-plate groups all day at 100 yds. With factory ammo, no less. :p

So I've been thinking about putting the classic lines back to this gun and giving myself more of a challenge. Besides, the red-dot looks real ugly, somehow. I want to be able to get a really good set of target iron sights mounted on it. Any recommendations..? Any online retailers that carry them. Something that's click-adjustable, designed mostly for outdoor target shooting (50+ yds), etc..

Thanks a bunch

I've got a couple of options for you. If you want to upgrade your factory rear sight, take a look at the Blade Replacement from Jack Weigand. www.jackweigand.com/smith_wesson_rear_blade.html

If you would like to replace the rear sight, 100 Series from Millett is a nice upgrade. www.millettsights.com They have more adjustment range than the factory, and www.midwayusa.com usually has them for a good price.

If your front blade is pinned, you can get several replacement styles from www.smith-wesson.com (call them) or www.brownells.com

Good Luck....

Orange

I have the stainless 66 that has the orange insert front sight, and the white outline around the rear sight cutout. I used to think the combo looked garish and really favored all black sights for range work. But now with my eyes getting a bit worse, I find out what the advantage is. Sure can pick up and align that combo alot faster than all black, except in darkness!

Thanks Joe.

Looks like I'll be going with the Weigand rear blade. Gun is already off to the gunsmith. The plan is to get the new rear sight, a Wolf spring action job to smoothen and bring the DA pull down to 5.5lb, coco-bolo wood grips, cylinder hole chamfering, target crowning - talk about extreme makeover. :p Pics will, of course, be posted as soon as...

I'm still mulling over whether to get the cryo-treatment or not..? I've read it doesnt do much for accuracy but could improve barrel and frame life. I'm looking at putting 300+ .357 rounds through it each week. Any thoughts on how useful this might be? Is Cryo a scam?

Oh, BTW, this is my target handgun, i'm thinking about using it for silhouette, PPC, pushing the limits while on the range, etc..
