Best Hunting Magazine

I stole this idea from another forum, but changed it to hunting instead of just guns in general. Which magazine do you think is the best hunting publication out there? In my opinion, the Texas Trophy Hunter magazine is by far the best one that I've read. Even if your not from Texas. While it does have it's share of ad's, it doesn't seem to be over run by them like some of the magazines are. The articles and picture are very interesting. I just wish it came out every month instead of every other month. What do you all think?

I would have to say peterson hunting is a my favorite The field and stream and outdoor life are good in the fall but this time of year they are horrible!!

Thinking in terms of a year's worth of articles, and help for the newbies, I still think the "Big Three" are the best. Field & Stream, Sports Afield, Outdoor Life. All kinds of hunting, all around the country. Same for fishing.

The Washinton hunter magazine has been pretty unreliable. They have fabricated 2 stories that I know of. So I dont read that one anymore. Bummer there are not any good ones that I know of for my area.

I like them all for fishing articles, but most of the hunting magazines I've read just arent very relative to the type of hunting i do. I still like to read the articles, look at the pictures, and wish i was there though.

My favorites have always been Field and Stream, and Southern Outdoors.

FUR-FISH-GAME is the only one I subscribe to anymore. Outdoor Life & Field Stream have become long run-on advertisements for new gear. Peterson's HUNTING would be okay if Boddington went away.

I knew you'd say "Outdoor Life", Jack. I guess you knew O'Conner served as an executive editor for Peterson's Hunting after leaving Outdoor Life?

I'm starting to like one that's local to me: Pennsylvania Game and Fish. I also get Outdoor Life and Field and Stream; they're good too.

And +1 for Fur Fish and Game. By the way do they still have adds in there for folks buying wild ginseng from woodsmen? My uncle used to harvest that stuff and he used to give me all his old Fur Fish and Game.

I get both F&S and Outdoor Life. I don't think that either of them are great, but they are cheap to subscribe too and I usually find at least a good article or two that justifies the cost of admission.

I let my sub to Sports Afield die. Articles are usually well written but as I don't have an African safari planned, they lose something in translation. Ditto the custom made double or trophy room.

My favorite sub is Kentucky Afield. Generally well written articles :barf: and the money support Kentucky wildlife funds.

The specific-state-oriented mags are okay, but there's little "how to" stuff for newbies. The ones for Georgia and Florida, anyway. A lot of useful info if you already know what you're doing.

I do get a bit tired of the real estate ads: "Own your own hunting land! 6.873205 acres on Stinking Scum Creek! Only $8,399 per acre!"

American Hunter - from the NRA, good all around topics
North American Whitetail - deer only topics
Varmint Hunter - prairie dogs, crows, coyotes, etc

Won't buy Field & Stream because of its editors anti-black gun positions.

Field & Stream was my favorite as at one time and the back page with Patrick McManas (sp) was the best. Sports Afield, and Outdoor Life were good too.

For years I subscribed to Field & Stream and Outdoor Life. Let the subscriptions lapse as my hunting became more sporadic and I became more focused on work, photography, and family. Subscribed again a couple of years ago and I am really enjoying them monthly. My hunting and fishing activities have experienced a similar rejuvenation; so has gun buying and shooting.

I really like NRA's American Hunter. I love to go through issues of Fur Fish & Game. That is a magazine of my youth and it brings back fond memories. Also get one of the state hunting magazines. It's okay. Not great. The PA magazine is good as is the PA Game News.

Now photography is again about to go through a rejuvenation of sorts for me. Looking forward to it and I'll probably subscribe to Outdoor Photographer as well. Good magazine.
