Best home defense ammo for a 3" SP101

Living in a townhouse where overpenetration might be an issue, would .357 loads be too much to use in a home defense situation? I've read other posts about the bang and flash maybe being too much for an indoor situation. I plan on practicing with mostly .38spl. Should I stick with .38Spl+P for this "application"?
Thanks for the help.

yes, 38spl plus p. I use 125gn Pmc Starfires, but I'm going to sample some Remington Gold Sabres. They both have "long" Slugs, which seem to shoot better in the 357 snub than "short" slugs. ;)

I would try low-power 357Mag loads or 38spl+p loads. Remington's 125gr 357 load runs a little over 1200fps which is similar to a +p 9mm load. Federal also has a low-recoil 130gr. Hydra-shok load.

Speer's .357 version of the .38Spl +P load that Bullet referred to has just hit the shelves this month. I really like the .38 Special load and just bought a couple of boxes of the Short Barrel .357 to try. The .38 is loaded to around 860 fps from a 1 7/8" barrel ( I figure around 900, give or take, from a 2.25 inch SP approx) and the .357 version is spec'd at around 1000 fps from a 2 inch barrel. It is also 135 grains but appears not to be the same bullet. The .357 seems to have more robust "petals" where the .38 seems "thinner", probably to allow better opening at lower speeds. I am anxious to try the new load because I have been very impressed with the .38 version.
