I was listening to that old Marty Robbins classic "Big Iron", about the Texas Ranger whose draw was fast and aim was deadly, and he killed that outlaw stranger with the big iron on his hip. Good song! Any others?

"Oh don't forsake me oh my darlin'.
You promised me that wedding dayaaay.
Oh don't forsake me oh my darlin.
I know yer greavin'.
I can't be leavin.
Until I shoot Frank Mil-ler dead......
Get along.................."

Theme to High Noon, staring Gary Cooper. Great classic. Great theme. Great acting. Great song. More realism than most, and that's rare in shoot em up movies.

Another favorite is the theme to "The Rifleman"! Its just an instrumental, but the 12 rounds that .45-40 spits out speaks for itself. Staring Chuck Conner

Theme to "The Lone Ranger!"

I know they are movie songs, but I forget the titles of the great folk gun songs.

Another is one I used to listen to as a kid, "Mr. Chiro". Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it was by Vangelis. The songs a collection of some sound clips from old gangster movies. It starts out w/some thommy gun fire and has some shooting throughout.

I also had a Jimmy Hendrix album, "Hey Joe, What ya doin w/that gun in your hand?" was one of the songs. I didn't like the theme of the song, but I liked the music.

My favorite is the ballad of "Mister Shorty" by Marty Robbins. He also recorded, "The Fastest Gun Around" and "Running Gun".

How about the ditty:

"Have Gun Will Travel reads the card of a man,
A knight without armor in a savage land.
His six-gun for hire he's the calling wind.
A soldier of fortune is the man called - Paladin!
Paladin, Paladin, where do you roam?"

(Please correct the mistakes, I haven't heard this song in 41 years. :o )
"Wire San Francisco"

Either you believe in the Second Amendment or you don't.
Stick it to 'em! RKBA!

"Lay That Pistol Down!" Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters. Uncle Art knows all the words! No, no. "Pistol Packin' Mama!" Yeah! THAT was the name of it!

(Oh, boy! Duck and Cover! ;) )

Trigger Happy By Wierd Al, I know it's sort of antigun but I like it anyways

Trigger Happy
Got an AK-47, well you know it makes me feel all right
Got an Uzi by my pillow, helps me sleep a little better at night
There's no feeling any greater
Than to shoot first and ask questions later
Now I'm trigger happy, trigger happy every day

Well you can't take my guns away, I got a
Constitutional right
Yeah, I gotta be ready if the commies attack us tonight
I'll blow their brains out with my Smith and Wesson
That out to teach 'em all a darn good lesson
Now I'm trigger happy, trigger happy every day

Oh yeah, I'm trigger, trigger happy
Yes, I'm trigger, trigger happy
(Oh baby, I'm) trigger, trigger happy
Yes, I'm trigger, trigger happy
(Oh, I'm so) trigger, trigger happy
Yes, I'm trigger, trigger happy
Better watch out, punk, or I'm gonna have
To blow you away

Oh, I accidentally shot Daddy last night in the den
I mistook him in the dark for a drug-crazed Nazi again
Now why'd you have to get so mad?
It's just a lousy flesh wound, Dad
You know I'm trigger happy, trigger happy every day

Oh, I still haven't figured out the safety on my rifle yet
Little Fluffy took a round, better take him to the vet
I filled that kitty cat so full of lead
We'll have to use him for a pencil instead
Well, I'm trigger happy, trigger happy every day

Oh yeah, I'm trigger, trigger happy
Yes, I'm trigger, trigger happy
(Oh baby, I'm) trigger, trigger happy
Yes, I'm trigger, trigger happy
(Oh, I'm so) trigger, trigger happy
Yes, I'm trigger, trigger happy
Better watch out, punk, or I'm gonna have
To blow you away

Come on and grab your ammo
What have you got to lose?
We'll all get liquored up
And shoot at anything that moves

Got a brand new semi-automatic weapon with a laser sight
Oh, I'm prayin' somebody tries to break in here tonight
I alwaays keep a Magnum in my trunk
You better ask yourself, do you feel lucky, punk?
Because I'm trigger happy, trigger happy every day

Oh yeah, I'm trigger, trigger happy
Yes, I'm trigger, trigger happy
(Oh baby, I'm) trigger, trigger happy
Yes, I'm trigger, trigger happy
(Oh, I'm so) trigger, trigger happy
Yes, I'm trigger, trigger happy
Better watch out, punk, or I'm gonna have
To blow you away

Coupla Johnny Cash songs come to mind.

"Don't Take your guns to town"
"A young cowpoke named Billy Joe grew restless on the farm,
A boy filled with wanderlust who really meant no harm.
He shined his boots and shaved his beard and combed his dark hair down,
And he listened as his mother said, 'Don't take your guns to town..."
In the end he goes to a bar, and gets in a gunfight and gets killed.

Then there's the great song, "Delia's gone"
"First time I shot her, shot her in the side,
Second time I shot her, I watched as Delia died,
Delia's gone, one more round, Delia's gone."

I'm writing the words from memory, and they may not be perfect, but you get the picture.

Believe it or not, I've still got both of Marty Robbins' gunfighter albums. They don't write songs like that anymore.

One that always stuck in my mind was "If I had a rocket launcher" by Bruce Cockburn.
There's also a line about "There's a gun and ammunition just inside the doorway, use it only in emergency," in the song Silent Running by Mike and the Mechanics. But of course the all-time best has to be "A Country Boy Can Survive."

Dennis - This is uncanny. Just yesterday I was flipping through the 5000 channels and found Have Gun Will Travel on TVLand (it's between The Tupperware Channel and The Catskill Comedians Channel). I also hadn't seen it for about the same 40 years. Watching it now, I saw that Paladin wasn't really all that handy with a six-gun. He was always looking at his holster to re-holster his gun. And he sometimes had to hold the holster to get the gun out. One more teen age hero down the drain.

(It was "His fast gun for hire...", IIRC. I didn't hear the title song yesterday.)

There was "Ringo" by Lorne Greene.

One of my favorites, "Gimme Three Steps" by Lynard Skynyrd. That's what you ask for when you're with the wrong woman and get a gun stuck in your face.

"Won't you gimme three steps?,
gimme three steps Mister,
Gimme three steps towards the door.
Gimme three steps,
gimme three steps Mister,
and you'll never see me no more."

Hmmm....how about "Hey Joe" by Jimi Hendrix?
sorry, its about all I could think of (and Im a Hendrix nut besides) :)

Knocking on heavens door 'GNR'

The entire soundtrack to Young Guns 2 by Bon Jovi

El Paso City and the original streets of El Paso from Marty Robbins

Lynyrd Skynyrd also did "Mr. Saturday Night Special" and "Give Me Back my Bullets".

Bad Company's "Bad Company" (I was born, six gun in my hand. Behind a gun, I'll take my final stand)

Bob Segar's
"16 Shells From A 30.0"
"Time To Lock And Load"
"Manhattan" (Shakey Davey's got a
twelve gauge in his hand)

These come to mind right away. Probably more to come....
