So apparently the POTUS ordered the creation of the another branch of the military to be created to address all of our pressing national security issue in space.

Yes, but you would not have enough mass to absorb it without flying backwards. All the actions flicks you ever saw where a shotgun blast knocked a man through a wall would come true. But you would go flying back as well.

I would say that whatever gun they use in space should be able to fix potholes in its spare time. Please fix my potholes before spending and money on this.
