i was wondering what you guys thought would be the best for my money .44 revolver. who makes it? i like the look of the Taurus', can't go wrong with the S&W, but what about the Rugers? who can give me the loudest bang for my buck, but still is priced some what resonably? I am lookin for a used one to save some money. bill goodman's coming into town maybe i can find a deal. thanks.

The Ruger Redhawk in double action and the Ruger Bisley in single action are two of my favorites even when saving money isn't as much of a factor. I've never needed to send a Ruger in for repair.

I would agree that you get the most out of your dollar with Ruger. Strong and reliable. They are lacking in final finish compared to a S&W but they are easy to polish. S&W and Ruger are the only two I would consider. If you like to shoot maximum loads all the time, stick with the Ruger. Redhawk, Super Redhawk or Super Blackhawk are all good choices for a steady diet of heavy loads.

Best bang for the buck would likely be Rugers. But, if you are going to be shooting it, I would lean toward finding a 6-6.5" Model 29/629 (something) as the best overall compromise between out of the box worksmanship, quality, appearance, and reliability. But, I've always lusted after a Colt Anaconda though.

If you want .44 mag, get a Ruger single action. I have the Vaquero. Super strong and great feel, lockup, and trigger. Which Bill Goodman show do you go to? I go to the one in Nashville, and find great deals.

Ruger blackhawk is gonna be the likely winner of this poll. Not only are they cheaper than double actions, the grip angle and the way the gun rolls in your hand makes a single action more comfortable for most people to shoot hangun mag cartridges in, in guns of equal weight.

Redhawk or SRH.

sounds like you want DA since you listed Smith and Taurus.

Used, these should be fairly inexpensive. I think that they will be hard to find used, though. They tend to be very popular with people who buy them. Hard to give up.:)

I like the Redhawk better cosmetically, but the SRH will actually have a better trigger. Even if it is fugly.

If you're not accustomed to magnum handguns, get a heavy gun. As heavy as you can stand. No taurus 5-shot titaniums.

Feel like used??

Find a Monson, Mass Dan Wesson Model 44 or 744 if you prefer stainless. These guns will outshoot just about anything, and will take a pounding. These revolvers dominated the IHMSA matches. My Model 44 is closing in on 25 years of service and it has not lived a "Safe Queen's" life for sure.

Take Care
