Best finish for P226

I recently purchased a used Sig P226 that is in functionaly great shape but needs to be refinished. Can anyone suggest a finish that could restore it to its original finish or something much tougher for holster wear? thanks.

Thanks for the link MPower.
By the way, my wife , a haole, went to HPA on the Big Island back in the early 80s. We went last August to visit the school.

Hawaii is a very beautiful place. You are very lucky to live there.

I have actually been keeping an eye out for a good used P226 9mm at a good price. If I get one I'll probably have the slide and it's components NP3'd for it's appearance and characteristics. I wouldn't mind another P229 and P220 with an NP3'd upper assembly. My biggest gripe with the SIG pistols I owned and actually carried was the fact that they seemed to rust too easily.

Hard chromed only.

All of the above finishes just:

1. don't have the hardness;
2. durability; and
3. wear off and peel and look nasty within 6 years.

NP3 and robar are great for internals though.

My 16 year old hard chromed P7 likes NIB and its carried very regularly.

I've seen some NP3ed Beretta's locally that were police trade-ins and they show the holster wear poorly.

Don't overlook Metalife "SS Chromium M",
{Industrial hard chrome}
Chuck Taylor's "absolute favorite".
It has only 2 microns surface buildup so won't change/disturb a good trigger job, etc.

They have a separate firearms brochure worth getting.

Hard chrome is tough to beat for the externals.

I have weapons that have been treated to the Robar NP3 version of electroless nickel(has teflon or similar lubricating plastics added in addition to the electroless nickel) on the internals of the firearm. The lubricity and life are fantastic. Robar can be run dry - without lubricant if necessary.

I have a friend who had a handgun treated with the Birdsong finish. It is susceptable to external scratches, etc. Internally it looks as good as the day he got it back from them. That was many years ago and a few thousand rounds through the weapon. Externally it does show finish scratches.

If I want good looks, charm, and personality on the exterior I would go with hard chrome. Internally, I would get the Robar NP3.

Any finish other than what it came with from the factory. Don't get me wrong, I love Sig-Sauer pistols, but I've never seen a less durable finish on any firearm from the factory.

All of the suggestions are good. Hard to beat the N3P finish. I'm partial to High-Polish blue and wood myself even though it requires more care and wears easily. Nothing beats a deep, deep, high quality
blue for looks.
