Best dream sw40 & sig357 gun.

I need help narrowing the search for a new handgun. I have narrowed down the caliber to a gun which can handle the combination sw.40 and sig.357 with just the purchase of a new drop-in barrel or slide. Also, would like to know if anyone has any info (good or bad) which would help with this drop-in caliber switch.

You will find the Sig 229 to be a popular gun from what you asked for. Check that one out.. If you plan on shooting a lot of .357 Sig, then I would (personal opinion here) go with a polymer gun that will help to soften the recoil, which seems sharp to me... The HK USP or Glock line of .40 S&W / .357 Sig pistols are all fine candidates... It also depends upon what you plan to use the gun for. Concealed carry, target, home defense, etc... The gun's mission will also steer you toward a gun size to consider... Try to find a gun range where you can rent the various models to try them out... The various models will all feel different in your hand, and the "right" feel should be a major factor in your decision...

The gun will mostly be used for target and home defense. So size really is not a consideration. But more importantly i would like the option of shooting more than one caliber from the gun and feel that I would like to have whichever gun be versatile enough to have an easy switch of barrels.I am presently looking at the Glock's and Sig p229. Thanks for any help

I strongly recommend the Sig P-226.

I bought one in .357 Sig about a year ago and immediately upgraded it with a Bar-Sto .40 S&W fitted barrel. Changing the caliber is as simple as inserting the desired barrel; everything else -- including Sig's magazines -- is interchangeable between the .40 S&W and the .357 Sig.

The P-226 is extremely accurate, reliable, durable, and designed/manufactured to the highest quality standards. With over 2000 rounds of all sorts of factory new ammunition though it, I have had zero jams, failures to fire, or any other type of problem.

The full-size P-226 has excellent ergonomics and is suitable for concealed carry, for home defense, for general plinking, and for competitive target shooting.

I rate the Sig P-226 as significantly better (principally accuracy) than my Glock 23C (in .40 S&W). Sig produces outstanding firearms. You will be happy with the P-226.

any gun in .357sig will work with just a drop in .40 barrel. same mags and everything else. but some older .40 guns can't handle the .357sig's power. any newly made .40 can though. i like glocks, sigs and berettas but the beretta doesn't come in .357sig and i don't think they make a conversion barrel for it although i have seen it done. my choice would be the Glock 31. i plan to get one myself soon.

I just picked up a sig p229 sport because I had 45's, 10s and 40's and wanted something different.

Consider the p229 sport. It is expensive but exceptionally accurate and recoil is pretty trivial compared to a 10mm or a 45. Also the blast that everyone talks about doesn't seem to happen on my gun, so I cannot comment. By the way, the first magazine full printed about 1.25 inches for 10 shoots at 15 yards. Not bad for a new gun on the range.

I'd recommend 2 pistols to you.
The Sig P226 with a BarSto barrel and the .40 Hi-Power with an KKM Precision .357Sig barrel. I have not converted my HP yet but thats the only reason I purchased the .40 version.

Right now, my .357Sig is a bastardized Glock 22 frame/Glock 31 upper with a 5.5" BarSto barrel. The barrel was hard fitted by my 'smith and this pistol is unbelievable accurate! The extra length of the barrel makes for some incredible ballastics also.

The Steyr M357 is coming out in May of this year.

The Glocks 31,32,& 33 357's work very well and have fairly good supported chambers as well. If you want top velocity, buy a Glock 35 and a KKM or Barsto 357 barrel. There's nothing like a long 5.32" barrel for the ultimate in satisfaction :)

In 40 check Ruger automatics; no opinion on 357 SIG pistols..........
