Best defense carbine for Kali: Ruger PC or mini14?

Which is the best? I've heard a mix of good and bad about the mini 14, but isn't the .223 caliber superior out of a rife than a .40 or 9mm? I live in Kalifornia, so no AR.

When your in the Carbine territory the Mini-14 .223 is superior case closed.

Depressing how Ruger managed to get the other semi-auto rifles banned while making sure his Mini was not included. Now he is going to profit from his actions.

Here is an alternative- A Marlin or Winchester .357 Mag lever action. The only data I have found on long barrel .357 performance is Federal's 180 grain bullet at 1550 feet/second with 965ft*lbs of energy. I imagine a 125-158 grain bullet would be quite faster.

TCW; I'm a big fan of the Mini-14. I own one and love it. I have reliable hi-cap mags and I enjoy the hell out of the rifle. HOWEVER, since were're talking about Kalifornia get the pistol firing carbine instead. Ten round mags are plentiful and for a civilian it's a effective self-defense weapon. Best Regards, J. Parker
