Can anybody reccommend a good source for buying 1000 rds of .223 of decent quality for a good price? I want boxer primed and brass shells (not cheap russian or cheap primer stuff).

About 2 years ago I bought 1K of .223 for only $169.00 (shipping included) from Hawk's View Ammo company. I found it to be good quality and reliable. However it doesn't look their company is around anymore - I couldn't find their web site.

Anybody?

Thanks!

I bought 1000 rounds of .223 PMP from Century International back when they had it on sale for $129 delivered. Right now its being sold for $72/500 = $144/1000. I always hear that it is underpowered, but I don't have a chronograph to confirm this. The brass is probably a little on the soft side. I can confirm that it functions well in my 20" Bushmaster.

If you would like to have ammo with SS109 bullets on 10 round stripper clips in bandoliers, Century is selling British ammo for $224.87/900. I haven't tried it, but it would be cool to get stripper clips and bandoliers.

Ammoman.com is selling WINCHESTER Q3131A (meets the M193 military spec.) for $189/1000 delivered.

http://www.jgsales.com/ is selling Sellier & Bellot, 55 Gr. FMJ for $158.50/1000 or South African, FMJ for $129/1000.

The best deal may be from http://www.southernammo.com/. They are selling US and Israeli M193 manufactured during the mid 80's for $115/1000. They have a disclaimer: "There may be a very small percentage of Berdan primed mixed in this ammo but the vast majority is Boxer primed."

All of this ammo was advertised as Boxer primed.

Q-man,

Great links! Thanks a lot.

On the 80's manufactured ammo, are there significant drawbacks? Is it likely to malfunction or have powder consistency problems?

Genso,
If you reload or have access check out http://www.scharch.com and look for bulk Case/bullets 1000 (ONLINE CATALOG and look for brass/bullet combos) 1x cases cleans, decapped, sized and trimmed with 1000 55 grn FMJ's for $85. This way you could work up a load your happy with and works well in your rifle.
Bulk surplus check out http://www.ammoman.com get the 62grn steel core or the nasty ass Portugeese 55grn

Just my opinion

Q3131A....$136.75 per 1,000

I just purchased this from:

http://www.sportsmansguide.com

This stuff is reportedly Q3131A as per AR15.com

I previously paid $29.99 for their buying club. The price quoted below reflects their five percent club discount.

Stock #: WX0-46896 Winchester® .223 55Gr. FMJ 500 $85.47

I then used the spg47 coupon, which provided 20% off the above price.

They charged less than $18 to ship two thousand rounds with 250 Estate 00 buck added to the order.

This has been reported previously, but what really surprised me was the low shipping cost to California.

I picked up on it either on this board, or AR15. I don't know for sure when it expires, or if it has already expired. I'm sure some folks around here, or on AR15 can provide the latest coupon info. All you need is the code number and not the source. You can order on the web. I would think that the website would disallow the use of an expired coupon. You can always call and ask.

The price I quoted includes the club discount of five percent.
