Best choke for my needs?

I am wondering which type of choke I should use for my Maverick 88. I will be using it mainly for skeet and upland game, but will also need it to shot slugs when hunting deer and have the ability to shoot 00 buckshot out to 15 yds.

It came with a modified choke, but I am thinking about switching to an improved cylinder or skeet choke because I want to do more skeet shooting at ranges and hopefully in competition. Will this drastically change how well buckshot patterns from 5 to 15 yrds?

Normally I would just test the choke out with the various loads, but since moving to Dallas I haven't found many pastures to go blasting around with shotguns.

Thanks!

Improved Cyl. will work best for slugs. For Dove, and clays I just use my MOD. I like to use a full for rabbits.

In the past, I've found that the Hastings brand stainless tubes increase the performance of a Mossberg type choke greatly. They also come in Skeet I and II and Improved Modified, and are affordable. The most doves I ever killed in a day was with my Browning BPS and a Hastings Skeet II tube shooting Remington Heavy Dove 7 1/2's.:D

If that's the case, then definitely go with a skeet choke. Slugs and buck shot won't notice the difference between skeet and imp cyl, but your score card will. Trust me, many a target has been chipped (dead by the rules) instead of just dusted because of a "Golden BB" provided by a skeet choke's larger pattern. In skeet, like sports in general, it's imprudent to start off already handicapped by a poor equipment selection.

Some folks will say they shoot skeet with this gun or that choke; but, they don't mention successfully competing with the set up. You can shoot skeet with any shotgun capable of shooting a second shot, but don't expect winning scores.

Use the "Skt" choke for both...

upland (early season) and the skeet field, switch to IC/Mod for late season.
Pattern the "00" to see what gives best density on paper and the maximum range.

Forster slugs don't care which choke, but Brenneke luv a cylinder bore.
The maverik is M500 derivative, consider using a side mount scope base and increase your accuracy.
