I've read that 20 LPI is a little sharp, but I'm wondering if I had a gun checkered in 20 LPI and then had NP3+ applied to it if the NP3+ takes some of the sharpness away.

I'm also wondering that if I had 30 LPI done, if that is too fine for NP3+ in that when it get coated 30 LPI with NP3+ on it doesn't offer enough grip or tends to get slippery ?

Np3 Plating

You will never tell the difference in the LPI because of the plating. Determine which LPI is your preferred cut, 20, 25, or 30. Put your hands on different size checkering, preferably on the same type of gun you intend to checker and see which one feels best to you.

One thing to consider. Smaller LPI checkering is a lot more gentle on your clothing for long term concealed carry. Some guys even knock off the very points ever so gently to reduce catching on clothing.

I own a Kimber classic 1911 that I sent out to Robar for their NP3 treatment some years back. The front strap is checkered at 25 LPI and the backstrap sports an Ed Brown wedge checkered at 30 LPI. Both have very nice sharp even checkering. The finish is distribuited very evenly within the checkering and looks awesome, shrpness of the points remains equal to when it was blue. :)

If you were really smart you'd get FLAT TOP checkering .I do that on all my handguns and it works really well .20-24 lpi.

I was thinking about the flat top... I've seen it on wood stocks.

I don't even see where Robar does checkering, I'm wondering if I'll have to send it to someone else to the the checkering.
