What is the best caliber for hunting with bullets of about 120 grains (115 to 125)?

I have a 30-06 which is fine down to 150 grains and don't want to duplicate its capabilities but want something for deer, goats, predators, etc. in that (115 to 125) bullet weight.

Thanks,

I'd say .24 but bullets don't usually get that heavy in that caliber. Next two calibers would be .25 or .264

The smallest diameter bullet of equal weight will tend to have a superior ballistic coefficient, and sectional density compared to the larger diameter bullets of the same weight.

Bridging both would be the .264 caliber, but I don't know of any bullets in 115 or 125 grains for that caliber. You'll be darn close though and have 123, 124,. and 127 grains but no 125's, as well as 90,100, and 120 grains but no 115's.

Nothing wrong with the 30-06 with 150's for those critters. The next logical step down is a 243. As said those bullet weights aren't commonly available in 243. But aren't needed. An 85-105 gr bullet is more than enough. Heck even a 223 would be more than adequate.

My uncle hunts deer and hogs with a 270. Not exactly sure what grain bullet he uses but ive been told theyre pretty deadly with a 120-130 grain. I would recommend a 243 for what youre looking to do. 95 grain ballistic tips will pretty much cover what youre looking to do and then some.
