Budget limit is $1200 and under. I'm asking for my brother, any imput would be appreciated. The gun will be used for hunting, trap, and skeet. The reason he wants a field gun is because we grew shooting field guns and it will be used for dual purposes.

let the games begin

thanks,

Both guns, the Citori and the 686 are great. Be sure to get screw in chokes and you have multi, multi purpose guns. One of the major differences in a field gun and a trp gun is the stock configuration. Usually a trap stock is longer and has a monte carlo which makes it a higher point of impact. Many very good trap shooters use field guns, it's just getting mucho practice.

thanks guys

Thank you, for the replies guys. Keep'em coming I want as many opinions as I can get.

I'm very happy with my Marlin LC Smith. I paid $800 from Red's Trading Post on Gunbroker.com They retail for about $1100 in my area in FL.

I'm extremely happy with my Stoeger Condor. At 300$, that is 150$ per bang. It isn't ornate enough to worry about trashing it in the field, so I take it hunting, rather than leave it in the case. If I had a Citori it would get less use.

Besides, with the money left over you could buy 6000 rounds of 12 gauge at Wallmart :)

I just picked up a Verona/Rizzini from CDNN for $1600 and it is a 2 barrel set up in 28 and .410. Comes with sideplates, engraving, gold inlays, great wood, and a very reasonable price. CDNN has a few other models that run a lot less than 1200. You can see them, but you have to download the catalog to see them. Great prices on Winchesters too.

Used Browning or Beretta, with screw in chokes.. 2 3?4 or 3 in will be your choice Since your going to the woods with this gun, a few scratches will not hurt anything.. Check & make sure the gun is tight & has not been abused. Good Luck

The new Spartan(remmington) looks promising I am looking into the 20 in coach gun in 12 ga. cant beat fit & finish for the $$$ also really nice o/u models. hope it helps.

A big thank you

Thanks guys for all the input I will pass it on. I will let you know, if he ever chooses, he has about 4 projects going right now, so who knows when that will be.

thanks

You can buy two baikals or spartans (same manufacturer different importers) in that budget. I have a baikal o/u and have no complaints it is my favorite gun.

I got a Beretta Silver Pigeon that had $1500 worth of Briley work. Posted, extended chokes etc.$1500. I have bought used Citori Brownings for $850.
If your getting a field gun, used should not matter. Just hold out for screw in chokes, so you can hunt anything, and try skeet, trap & sportingif you like.

With $1200 to spend I'd go with a used Browning or Beretta. Both are excellent, will last forever and you can get your money out of them if your tastes change. I'd try them both and see which fits better.

+1 on the CZ scatterguns. i probably won't get an O/U for a while but i do want one, and in looking into them i figured that on an $800 budget or so they seemed to be some of the nicer ones.
