BEST and easiest to see sights?

OK. I know there must be other shooters who need better and brighter sights. I find myself searching for the front sight on my M65. I used to really like gold bead Partridge front sights. I have done the nail polish trick. It looks like I am going to start getting adjustable sighted N frames from S&W. What would be the BEST and easiest to acquire aftermarket sights? I know, Crimson Trace laser grips. No, I don't rely on batteries.

I've converted my carry pistols to the XS express tritium style. They are extremely fast and accurate with the standard size dot.

Battery failure?

JMO. I don't think a concern about "battery failure" at a critical moment is necessary with modern batteries. I replace the batteries in my CrimsonTrace grips yearly on general principals just as I do the smoke detectors in my home. I know my accuracy in my J-frame (model 638) is tremendously improved by the laser sight, and more than off-sets any battery concern I might have. I am so happy with laser sights that I have just gotten a LaserMax sight for my Sig P239. In year's past I've tried all sorts of iron sight options and NOTHING even comes close to the improved accuracy you will see with a quality laser sight on your firearm. Now, I'm an old _art, and my vision isn't as good as it once was, so I have an additional reason for "needing" the best sights I can get. If you ever have the opportunity to shoot a pistol/revolver equipped with Crimson Trace/LaserMax lasers please give it a try. Best Wishes.. :)

Being an old *art (like me) have you ever tried a red dot sight?
My eyes have a hard time focusing on the sights and it looks like a red dot might be the answer. Not the scope style but the regular sight type.
Thanks for any input.

I'm considering the XS sights also; my eyes aren't as good as they once were either.

An brochure, enclosed with a 625 I recently purchased, indicates that S&W Performance Center installs them. Judging by a photograph in the brochure, it appears the sight picture would be much improved by the XS.

Red Dot Sights?

Micaelm45: I haven't tried the red dot sights you mention. I do have one of the "red dot" scope types on a HiPoint 9mm Carbine and it works very well. I am not a "weekly" plinker, I just go out and shoot when the urge hits me. I am primarily concerned about the self defense aspect regarding sights. When my wife and I are traveling (or whatever) I wanted to give myself the very best chance to actually hit something should a bad situation occur. No iron sight I had ever seen offers anything near the "hit" potential I have found in the Crimson Trace grips. I'm basically a coward by nature and when my heart is beating 300 beats per min, my adrenlin is sky high and I am scared out of my britches I feel just instinctive pointing and putting a very visable dot on the mass of the bad guy is my best bet. Hopefully just the sight of the laser dot could provide a bit of unease for the agressor and I know from plinking experience the bullet will actually wind up where the red dot points. I keep my S/W model 638 stocked with MagSafe ammo, and my Sig p239 with Cor-Bon. I want to give my wife and myself the absolute best chance for surviving any threat contact, and I feel a quality laser product is as far ahead of any conventional iron sight as the Computer is when compared to an old typewriter in this particular situation. I have no doubt that for the plinker and target shooter quality iron sights are great and provide a sight picture that in daylight a laser can't. But in a personal defense situation I wouldn't be taking the time to actually acquire a sight picture, I would just point and shoot. And I think in that particular situation FOR ME the laser sight is my best bet. I'm not downing quality iron sight products as they are wonderful for those with "young eyes" who enjoy shooting on a regular basis. I do everything I can to minimize my potential for getting into such a situation anyway, but if "murphy's law" jumps on my wife and I then I need all the visable help I can get. For me it's my laser sights. JMHO (contrary opinions accepted) Best Wishes :)

In an article quite a few years back I read that the human eye sees shades of red and green best. Many aftermarket sites reflect this idea. As my eyes got older I had trouble seeing BOTH front and rear sites, whether pistol or rifle, at the same time to align sight picture and see the target. I tried flouresent red paint on the front post of all my open sight guns with much success. The sights are still a little out of focus when seeing the target properly but the red front lets me align well enough to shoot very accurately. The paint will fade somewhat or chip off if carrying in a holster but redoiing is no problem and a small bottle of Testors model paint is inexpensive. Best thing is, if it doesn't work for you, red or green, simply remove it with thinner and your only out a couple of bucks. Bob

Factory sights

I have the factory sights on my model 66, which consist of an orange insert and a black rear with the white outline. For any daylight use they are really easy to pick up fast and I have no desire to upgrade them. Of course they are not much good in the dark, but few are good in both light and dark. I have night sight 3 dot sights on autos, but they are not as good as the Smith in daylight for me. Try some good sight paint. Black out the rear notch and paint the front sight white, then a final coat of glow orange. Comes off if you don't like. And cheap.
