Best ammo for the G17

We all know that there are many factors that influence accuracy in a gun, such as grip, stance, barrel length, sights, gun mass, locking mechanism, rifling, bullet mass, bullet speed, and so on...

Based on your experience (those of you who own the Glock 17)---and putting all other considerations aside---which 9mm cartridge performs best for you?

I find that low-mass, high-velocity 9mm JHPs are by far the most accurate. If I use PMC and Blazer FMJs, or 124/135 gr JHPs doing 1100 fps or less, my G17 shoots all over the place except where it's supposed to. But when I use 115 gr CorBons doing 1350 fps, my shooting levels out dramatically.

Makes me wonder if the G17 (3rd gen) wasn't specifically designed around +P ammo.

You are sort of right. Glocks are designed to meet NATO specs. Since NATO spec ammo is pretty close to +P, hot ammo will yield the best results. Personally, my Glock likes S&B for target ammo. S&B is about the same price as Blazer, but a bit hotter and in a brass case.

I can't answer as to the 3rd Gen Glock 17. However, I can tell you of my experience w/ the 2nd Gen G17.

Perhaps I'm fortunate but I've shot about everything out of my 2nd gen G17 w/out ever having a problem w/ accuracy or reliability. My G17 is very accurate and reliable even w/ cheap ammo. Winchester 115gr FMJ gives great performance. Federal is also very good. Blazer is great for plinking. Never been a big fan of PMC. Have had several problems w/ it in a couple of my other guns, although it has performed flawlessly in my G17. Although Glock doesn't recommend reloads, I've never had any problems w/ them made from all sorts of different brass.

I use 124gr in my 9mm and 115gr as second choice. Many old time 9mm shooters will tell you that the faster you push a 9mm usually the more accurate it becomes. I think this would explain the great accuracy of the 357sig round also.

To be honest my G17 3rd gen has good accuracy with everything
I have fed her. No jams, no missfires. I cant get it to choke.
3800 rds and still counting. I do reload most of my ammo. I use several different powder loads and bullet weights though.

Hey ain't this thing suppose to explode by now?

I heard that hollow points r more accurate than most other bullets because the tip is hollowed out, and then the weight is added to the bullet which aids stability. This true?

Oh yeah, bout the glock. I fed a friends glock 115 grain stuff, reloads from a friend who has a reloading business. no probs, but had 3 misfires on the glock 34 in the first 2 mags at an IDPA match. Dunno if it was the gun or cartridge yet, hope to know soon. im also interested in this as the glock 17, 3rd gen will prob be my first purchase :)
