Best Ammo for Sig Sauer P220

I have had pretty good luck with Winchester 185 gr. flat point. I also fired some American Eagle that was okay but I didn't like it as well. Speer Lawman are also pretty good.
I am now shooting reloads with 200 gr plated Rainier SWC and flat point bullets with WW231. They are even better.
I had a similar experience. Shot a Glock and liked it pretty good. Later I shot a Sig 245 and there was just no comparison. I bought a Sig right then. Both are great guns but I liked the trigger on the Sig better and preferred the traditional DA/SA with decocker.

my default load (accurate HD when i can't find anything else) is the federal 185gr jhp (i always have a few boxes on hand because it always feeds, has moderate recoil and hits close to POA in every colt and sig)
i'm sorta old fashioned, my default in 9mm is the 9BP 115gr jhp
my current carry in my p220 is the federal 165gr hydra-shok personal defense because i mostly work in a crowded building
i found the glock .45 a bit big for my hand (but i still want to try the g-36) but the sig was almost as comfortable as the 1911. the sig trigger can also be tuned very nicely (remember to smooth and round the face of the trigger at the same time)

P229. My current CCW piece is a West German
manufactured and assembled P220 in .45 ACP.
My favorite ammo is Federal's 230 grain Hydra

I tend to shoot 230 gr FMJ ammo in my SIG, out of nostalgia for GI use of an M1911A1 and because it costs less than most other loads. I've been buying MagTech for $9.95 per box from Four Seasons (www.fsguns.com)- it's made in Brazil, shoots well, and is nicely made. I also buy Winchester 230 gr FMJ at Sports Authority for $10.99 per box.
Accuracy with this pistol is exceptional, and the trigger pull is silky smooth, though not the lowest.
When I had a Colt Gold Cup, I usually shot 185 gr semi wadcutters. They have noticably less recoil and are thus easier to shoot. So that's my choice for optimal paper punching.
Some people worry about "defense" rounds but based on experience of two world wars and several insurrections, doesn't appear you can go wrong with the 230 gr FMJ.

i like magtech in 45acp. i shoot a bunch thru both of my p220s. brass is really good for reloading also. carry ammo is still the hydra-shok 230gr.

Another vote for the Federal Hydra-Shok 230grn load.
As far as the Glock 45ACP pistols vs Sig P220 is considered, I'd have to agree with what Ala Dan wrote. However, I would add that the Glock 21 is easier to shoot fast and equal in accuracy with loads it likes. The P220 I had was more accurate with a wider variety of loads, but my G21 was just as accurate with certain loads.
