Best Ammo/Cleaning for .22lr revolver?

I have the S&W 617 and want to shoot it a lot in the cheapest fashion. I'm curious for people's advice on the following aspects of use/spending/correct gun care:

1) Lead (like thunderbolt at $8/500) vs copper plated (Remington 745 at ~$13.50/525) I don't mind cleaning everything at the end of the day, but of course I don't want to "overclean" the bore, at least not improperly :)

2) Cleaning after how many rounds, and how? Brush, JB bore compound, Outers Foul Out III? Do the brass chore boy around the old brush to clean the forcing cone, or does the outers do that part?

3) Ideas on how much lead exposure from using lead rounds (and cleaning the gunk out) vs copper rounds. After all, saving a couple hundred bucks is not worth raising my lead level (and especially not of my children's)

Thanks for all advice/info. This site is great!

copper ammo seems to foul less in my .22 revolvers. ( Federal seems like teh best bulk IMHO) Sometimes I'll shoot lead and finish up the last 204-30 rounds with copper. Seems to make clean-up easier. You shouldn't need to put a brush to your 617 but every 500 rounds or so. I just run a solvent soaked patch through every other range session and scrub with the brush when I can see build up.
617's are great guns!

Remington Thunderbolts are the dirtiest ammo I have ever shot, I switched to Remington Golden bullets, $9 for a 550 pack at Wallyworld.

I have had good luck with the federal copper plated bulk pack ammo, good accuracy, way fewer duds, than the remmington, last box of remammo I bought was my last because every round seemed to have a different report, like the powder charges were inconsistent.

I also just use the Federal Bulk packs for my pistols. I tried about everything and found they are just as good as your going to get and they are accurate. Shot my S&W K22 and over 50 rounds all but 4 were in a 3 in. target at 18 yards. The worst thing is you will find a dud now and then. W------t has them for about $8.00 for 550. Shot one box of remington and the other box is still in the drawer have never shot anything that dirty.
