best 5-shot .357?

I have the funds to buy one more handgun, and I'm trying to decide on locating a G36 (already have a G30), or getting a 5-shot .357. First choice would have been S&W, but, well, you know. I like the Ruger SP-101. Owned a Taurus about 13 years ago, and it was junk. Anyone have any experience with small revolvers of this nature? I already have a S&W .38 Airweight and love it.

I have two .357 J frame S&Ws. One is a M 640 and the other a M 60 3".I am very pleased with them. I don't find the 3 inch any more difficult to carry than the 2 inch. I had a Taurus M 85 CH SS and it misfired so much I FINALLY got Taurus to replace it. I sold it unfired and it has been OK. I wouldn't buy a S&W from a dealer who was continuing to deal with S&W. I also have a M 642 and love it. All three of mine shoot well and I would probably buy another Airweight if I found a good deal from "not a S&W dealer." I don't have any experience with the Ruger, but it has a good reputation. Having my experience with Taurus, I was determined not to buy another. However, in view of their stance against the Clinton extortion, I would buy another Taurus if they made a concealed hammer lightweight .38 Spl that wasn't ported. I want to patronize those who take such a stand. I have a friend who recently bought two Taurus Ti's. One was a 45 Colt and the other a .357. They have both been fine. Jerry

Had the same choice awhile back. Ended up with a Taurus 605. Add Uncle Mikes Boot grips, nice trigger and better groups than you would expect from a 2" bbl out to 25 yds. Great buy for the money IMHO. No problems,no regrets.

Be careful what you ask for..You may get it.

I've got a .357 model 60, and love it. It's stock, except that I had them change out the standard 3 finger boot grip with a grip from a 2 finger chief's special grip.

While I like Ruger revolvers a lot, I find that for carry purposes, the SP101 is bigger and heavier than the Smith.

What I like best about it is that it fits in an ankle holster with no problem (mine's Galco). Try that with a 3 inch barrel, Jerry M!!! Just kidding. As we all know, it's a matter of preference. Preferences being made, I usually carry my 342ti Airlite more often than my model 60.

Have a S&W 649 Bodyguard 357mag no problems,
except it shoots better than it ought too!!

I, too, am a little worried about the weight of the Ruger, because it will be carried either on the ankle or pocket. I am in the market for a new one, and since I am actively boycotting S&W, they are out of the running. That is a shame, I own four of their handguns, and they are close to, if not the, best of breed in what I am looking for. Oh well.

Ruger SP101 in .357 is the best. Although
it a bit heavy, it's built to last and shoot
any .357 loads you can think of...Besides all, if somebody thinks of using .357, it's better to have a bit of extra weight so that
probability of second, third, etc. aimed hits remains relatively high...
