Best .45: SIgP220 or HK USP ?

Which is the best in terms of overall performance for defense and target and for durability? Thanks!

I can only tell you about the USP45. I own 3 H&K USPs and in all honesty I've never shot a Sig before. The USP is intended to be an offensive/defensive weapon and not a target gun. Nonetheless it is very durable, reliable and accurate. The DA pull was initially a bit stiff but now after some 3500 rounds during which I did a lot of decocking and DA shooting, it is still a little heavy but acceptably smooth(The smoothest DA pulls I've ever felt were on Berettas). The SA pull feels like about 4.5 to 5lbs and is good enough to shoot 2-3 inch groups offhand at 25 yds. I reload and have put many bullet styles through it including a 255 gr LSWC that is intended for Long Colt. Even these functioned well along with Rem Golden Sabers, Rainier JSWC and others.

The HK, for a few reasons. One reason is the hi-cap ability. The other is the ability to carry "cocked and locked". Another reason is the HK durability factor, other than Glock, you can't beat it.

Then again, take the one that appeals to you the most. Sig is a great gun in its own right. Just not as good as the HK.

I would rather have the SIG.
I love the HK - but I find the SIG is a more refined device.

Your compairing a Mustang Saleen to a BMW M5. (dont look at price tags)
Both are fast... Just a matter of taste.

Sig is slightly more accurate, however it has better trigger, so offhand accuracy can be significantly better (if the shooter is good). Sig has better grip feel (to me). Sig is slimmer. Sig has better magazine release.
USP is more corrosion resistant. Higher cap. More versatile carry modes.

One important point to consider: HK is one of the strongest .45 designs (if not THE strongest), while Sig is one of the weakest (220 Sport being the exception of course).

How is the Sig 220 the weakest?
Never had the pleasure of playing with one, but I thought most Sigs are well made guns.

Well - the frame is aluminium... this plays a factor in longevity.
Mine showed very tiny hairline cracks at the feed ramp. After some 50,000 rounds, but still...

Haven't shot the HK but I can't praise the sig too much. Its the best shooting 45 I have ever owned and that includes a colt that I had a grand into.If it fits you and feels good by all means buy he sig.

Other than the fact that both guns are double action .45 Acp auto pistols, it's really difficult to compare them. They are very different pistols in all respects IMO. I wouldn't go as far to say that one is all that much more durable, or reliable, or accurate than another. Manufacturing tolerances from one pistol to the other will insure some overlap as far as accuracy, triggers, and reliability are concerned, especially when discussing these two excellent pistols. Buy the one YOU like the best, not the one some "gun expert" declares is better for this reason or that. If the choice were mine, I'd buy the SIG first, because I LIKE it better, not because I THINK it's better. You wouldn't be the first one to own both either :D

H&K only not the one you mentioned, but the P9S Target. Of you two you mentioned I own the P220 and there are 10 round mags for it, but the 8 + 1 suit me just fine. I am not fond of the grip on the USP though I am sure that it is a fine pistol.

TCW,

I think either of these pistols would serve you very well. Both are highly regarded, accurate and reliable.

When I made the decision between the two I chose the HK because it fit my hand better. The Sig grip was slimmer and didn't feel as natural to me as the full size USP. The trigger on my USP is -very- nice. Nicer than the Sigs I checked out. This may have just been luck though because a few of the USPs I have tried since I got mine don't feel as good.

I don't think you can go wrong with either of these choices.

Glock 30 - 2" groups at 25 yards right out of the box - no mods! Small enough for CCW. But holds 10 rounds. Bow wow!

Try as many rounds as you can get away with. One of em is bound to find the X easier than the rest. Hard to hit with em iffen they don't fit YOU.
