Looking to purchase a used 22lr revolver for my daughter as her first pistol. Not looking for anything fancy just something reliable and cheap. What are your suggestions?????

Heritage Rough Rider...cost around $160.00
I've put a lot of rounds through mine. It's a good starter gun.

Double-Action?,,,

Man, I don't think there is a new double-action .22 revolver for that $200 or less price.

The least expensive I know of is the czechpoint series at $292.00,,,
But the few reviews of people who have bought them say it's not a good gun at all.

Charter Arms Pathfinder .22 runs around $330 to $350,,,
It's actually a very nice pistol for the money,,,
A lady friend of mine has a 4" model,,,
It shoots just fine after 500 rounds,,,
She just had to break in the trigger.

From there you jump up to the ruger SP-101 for $500.00 and over,,,
The Smith & Wesson revolvers are priced much higher.

Even if you go used on a S&W J-frame model 34,,,
You will probably be paying $500.00 or more.

DA/SA .22 revolvers aren't cheap at all,,,
You can buy several semi-auto's between $250.00 and $300.00.

Double action, used is pretty much all there is out there in that price bracket.

Look for a well-cared-for High Standard Sentinel double-nine which can (sometimes) be found for $ 200.00 or less.

They were pretty good guns when made and, if not worn out (a person could wear one of them out, eventually: The frames were aluminum alloy) were more accurate than they had a right to be at their price-point.

A used H&R might be close to $200.00. The Heritage Rough Rider is a good start, though single action only. I'd probably own one, but they're not available in Illinois due to the metal they're made out of.

I would look for a used H&R or Charter Arms Pathfinder double action revolver if you are intent on that spending limit. You can find older Colts for not too much more with finish wear. Keep your eyes open.

Found a Dan Wesson 22lr in the box with 4 and 2-inch barrels and two grips for $200. They ARE out there. Just keep your eyes open for them and be ready to jump on it when it comes up.

I had a Taurus 94 that I got for under $300. I would NOT suggest you get it for a new shooter - or any shooter really. The trigger was at least 14#. There was no fixing it.

I have a H&R Sportsman I got used for just under $400. It is a fantastic pistol. Accurate and easy to load (I <3 top breaks).

@ spanishjames, I have a heritage RR in Illinois and have seen them for sale at gander mountain, bass pro, and MC sports. They all say in the ads that the guns are not available in IL locations, but they are there, and just a joy to shoot. To the OP, I love my RR, very accurate and the single action is great to teach new shooters because it is slow and makes them slow down think about sight picture and grasp. Recoil is almost zero, even with the magnums. As far as a DA revolver, a used H&R from armslist is probably your only hope, besides a new semi auto. Good luck!

Hello aarmel732,,,

Heritage makes five guns in .22 rimfire that have steel frames,,,
Those are made to be legal for sale in Illinois,,,
I'll bet you saw one of those guns.

They are a bit pricier then the Zamak frame guns though.

I didn't know that. I'll have to check one out someday. Thanks.
