Best .223 barrier round

I want to load some barrier rounds for my AR, comparable to the MK318 if possible.

Recommendations for bullets and powder?

I think this belongs in the handloading forum, but a trophy bonded bear claw is probably as close as you can get. Although any of the Barnes solid copper 62 grain and 70 grain bullets would be my choice for barrier penetration.

For powder they all work, I'd look to TAC, 2000-MR, Re15, Varget, etc.

Years ago, Hornady made a 60 grain "Barrier Buster" 223 round. I bought a considerable amount of it after it was outdated by the agency who developed/ordered it. From what I was able to find out, the bullet was designed to penetrate fire doors w/o coming apart while still expanding to some extent. I didn't shoot through any fire doors but it is perfect for killing deer within the limitations of the .223. I sold some to a couple of farmers who had depredation permits to remove deer from soybean fields. They related many accounts of how well the ammo worked for them.
This bullet had a strong jacket with a small flat meplat showing core material. I would chose a bullet of fairly heavy weight and conservative expansion loaded somewhat below max velocity.

Kraigwy,

Know a source where I can purchase the gold dots for reloading?

I guess you can call Speer, I was given two cases of loaded stuff to work with from a LE agency who want me to do a LE Sniper School.

I was to get ballistic info for the class. I do know that it tears the crap out of my steel targets and other items I shot. It goes through a metal 55 gal drum, stim to stern at 400 yards. Fairly accurate too.

Personally I think it's too much (penitration wise) for LE sniping but I didn't get a vote on that.
