Bersas-Good, Bad, Don't Care??

My good buddy that wanted a CZ75B Mil has decided to look into a Bersa 380. It's the blued with a chrome safety and slide stop. NIB for $200. It has smooth DA/SA and the shop owner told him he can't keep in stock long enough. He has a reputation as a no BS type of guy and he did say he had a customer who got a rat that had to be sent back to the distribuitor for replacement.

What's the collective wisdom of TFL say? Yea, nay, or don't bother me with this I'm too busy having a beer? :p

Tecoloe, I had one back in the late 80s. It was a good little gun but it's kind of hit and miss with Bersa. For the same money or less you can get a Mak in 9x18 or 380. Never seen one that was not a good little shooter, but then again if I were you friend I would hold out for th CZ 75B

I have a friend who has a 380 Bersa , and he said it worked great
but after a year the slide cracked . They seem like good guns but i
personally think Walthers are a much better 380 , but then again they cost a little more .

Bersa

Tecolote,

I have owned a Bersa Series 95 for the better part of 5 years now. Let me tell you this little gun is a gem. I will agree that early production Bersa's left much to be desired, but the last few years the quality has improved 100 fold.

I have put over 1000 rounds of .380 through mine and have not experienced a single malfunction. Accuracy is as good as you will find in a small .380, the trigger is good and gets better with time, and the finish remains in very good condition.

Al205, stated the walther was a better gun. NO WAY!!! When I bought the Bersa I own now, I, like most buyers go in with the intention of buying a Walther Bond-o matic. Cost was not the issue and I still walked out with the Bersa. Felt better in hand, and seemed to be finished just as well. All that and no slide/hammer bite to boot!!!

Al205, before you go and run your mouth and repeat something you heard from some gun shop commando, make sure you have FACTS. If you were to do a search on Bersa here at TFL, you will find they have a pretty good following.

Bersa .380

I have an older Bersa model 83 and have had no problems with it what-so-ever. Didn't pay a lot of money for it and I do use it as a CCW.
I'd still go for the CZ though ;)

I have to agree with PeterGunn!

I bought a bersa 380 thunder 3 yeara ago, it now has several 1000nd rounds through it and still looks new. mine is the nickle plated thunder and the finishn has held up very well. I have not had any problems with it, with good ammo no failure to fire or ejects. They are very reliable and fun pistols to shoot.

I had a Bersa Thunder that threw a pretty good chunk of it's slide into my face and cost me 5 stitches beneath my eye. So needless to say, I'm not real big on them. But to be fair, I don't know of anyone else who has had any major problems with them, including the guy who took mine off my hands once we got a new slide put on. He traded me a S&W Sigma .380 for it. Even tho' the Bersa bit me pretty good, I think I came out on the bad end of that trade.

I've had a Walther PPK/S (American-made) .380 and now a Bersa Thunder .380.

The Walther was a piece of crap. The Bersa has been perfect so far. It's what the Walther should have been, at less than half the price ($178 NIB at a gun show).

I just bought a Bersa Thunder .380 for my wife who is new to firing handguns...I have owned several .380's in the past including a Makarov ( I STILL kick myself for letting that one go!) but I must say the Bersa is a great little gun...fired right to point of aim right out of the box...no hammer bite...and for the money it's a cool looking handgun! we were going to get a taurus 38 snubbie but she liked the whole "semi-auto" thing better...i'm glad she made the choice she did...I think I enjoy it more than she does:p the only problem so far has been when the slide is racked after the last round is fired...the reloaded mag is re-inserted back into the gun...and if too much force is used the slide racks itself...which puts it into fire mode without the shooter racking the slide...I contacted the distributor right away and they are sending me a new slide stop...so far I am pleased with the customer service...and once this situation is resolved it will be a great little back up piece for my Ruger P94!

No complaint with mine, so far. 100 rounds and counting. Loves American Eagle FMJs and Federal Premium JHPs, but I'm told it'll eat anything. Easy field-stripping and cleaning too. Very accurate (as long as you align the dots with your strong eye). Low recoil.

Keep the safety oiled, however, or it might feel a bit stubborn.

All in all a very good investment. And they're selling like bread over here.

Get the cz 75..or a makarov or a cz 83 in .380 or an feg smc 380
better quality guns .....However I do like the bersa...I just think the above stated guns are better quality for the money.
shoot well
